A wonderful collection but somewhat cramped making photography awkward, not helped by the bright sunlight.

Reckless Rat -I think your thinking about the Heinkel He177 which used close coupled DB engines .
Yes – and isn´t exactly what the DB610 was?
A pair of DB605s coupled together for the He 177 heavy bomber?

One of the best lit Hangar museums in the world. What a difference from the Battle of Britain cave at Hendon.

A DB60-something, but once I looked it up none of the pictures looked right. I was pretty sure there was a DB-600 series engine which had been doubled up along the same lines as the RR Vulture and used in an unsuccessful German Heavy bomber design – but I couldn’t think what that was, either. Jumo 210? Nope. Obviously getting senile in my old age 😀
Thank you for rescuing my junior Senior moment!

And that whacking great engine? I thought I knew what it was – and I was wrong!
It is a Daimler-Benz DB610…..what did you think it was?

They were still restoring the CASA 111 when I was there – looks really good in its proper Spanish colours. The VFW 614 has also arrived recently – so it must be very cramped in there now. It looked pretty full in 2011!

The postwar RAE report on the Horten aircraft described the ‘ease of entry into the cockpit’ for the Ho IV as “For atheletes only”. Which is second only to the infamous A&AEE assessment of another aircraft’s cockpit -“This aircraft is difficult to enter, it should be made impossible.”

Thanks Mike – not for the faint of heart, one assumes!

Some great pix there – especially the view from on high.
That ‘Flying Wing’-type glider must have required immense amounts of intestinal fortitude to fly! Landing would be like doing the Cresta run! Do you know what its type or history is?
ETA: And that whacking great engine? I thought I knew what it was – and I was wrong!

Thank Goodness the Heinkel is still painted in its Spanish markings and not a WW2 Luftwaffe scheme!
Looks great that way.
Lots of other “Gems” there such as the Do31 and Do24.

What an intriguing collection! A real varied mix, beautifully displayed (even if a little cramped) and in a wonderful setting. Thanks for posting the pics.

And the reason for the visit. If you pay for a ride on this you get free entry to the museum.

Which allows you a view of the museum like this.
