Perhaps it is not publicity fascism

Great photos,

One question, what is the policy re the use of the swastika on historic artefacts in Germany ? I was under the impression that it was prohibited.

Thank you for the photos Evzan, they are excellent. I particularly enjoyed the detail shots of the ME110, what a superb restoration it appears to have been, complete with lots of stencilling, and a even a Swastika on the tail – I wonder if this has anything to do with the ‘shoe-horning’ into the corner.

Its really good to see an earlier model of the 110 to complement the Hendon example.

I too, am wondering about those Easyjet prices πŸ™‚

Daz, the Condor did indeed have a weak fuselage, but it was designed as an airliner, not to be loaded with ordinance.

Dave

Meant to add that! Did it ever have these kind of accidents when operating as an airliner?

Superb photos many thanks –

Yep i wondered about the Uhu – wasnt there some deal with Jim Pearce and Flug Werk for them to do some of the work in exchange for some airframes?

Note to self – find out Easyjet prices to Berlin… πŸ˜‰

You took the words right out of my mouth…

Great photos – thanks Evzen. Sure this is going to add Berlin’s tourism figures.

Thanks Dave. I seem to recall it also had a few bullet holes around the cockpit area, or was that another one?

I wonder how many recoveries from the Eastern Front Jim Pearce has been involved in, I can’t think of many airframes to have come out of there that he HASN’T been involved with…! Digressing slightly, does anyone know how his Fw189 is coming along?

Steve

The new museum annex is at the DTMB, downtown Berlin, not Gatow. The Me110 is the same example as you remember laid out at Jims place in the mid nineties.

As for the Fw200 section, it looks very narrow. I’d always imagined the Condor to be a bit larger. Having a complete example restored and on public display sounds mouthwatering. Note to self – find out Easyjet prices to Berlin… πŸ˜‰

Nice shots Evzen, thanks for posting them up. πŸ™‚

I seem to recall one of the problems with the Condor being it was quite weak, and a number of them broke their backs. Could be wrong, however.

I’m not too sure about the positioning of the Bf110, but that’s just a minor observation. Overall, it looks like a very interesting collection. Would I be right in saying it occupies one of the old hangars at the former RAF Gatow?

Interesting to see how complete the Ju87 is, even after two years of vandalism and the fact that it is displayed unrestored. I’ve seen much less recognisable airframes go on to fly! Is the eventual intention to restore it to a pristine static condition, or preserve it as it is?

Back to the Bf110, I seem to recall reading about this and at least one other complete example being brought in through Immingham docks some 12-13 years ago for Jim Pearce, and that the tail section of one had been nicked at the docks. I wonder whether it was ever recovered… I also remember seeing pictures of one of the Bf110’s laid out at Jim’s workshop, it looked remarkably complete, and I remember thinking how wonderful it would be to see this slender shape in the air for the first time in (what was then!) fifty years. Sadly it wasn’t to be, as the aeroplane is now a static in Berlin. Under cover, looked after, and an important relic, but I’d have loved to see one fly. Still, you never know what just might still be out there…

[QUOTE=Dave Homewood]That Bf110 looks fantastic, but must be largely a new build when compared with the state it was in in NZ? A great pity it never got to be restored to flyable condition, as was AFC’s intentions.

QUOTE]

The 110 is largely original as they used two other wrecks to rebuild this example, along with various parts obtained from other sources, this aircraft bellied on a lake and was recovered largely intact, with only some corrosion around the cockpit. Several smaller parts are still required to complete it. I had the pleasure of visiting it undergoing restoration at Friedrichshafen in 2000.

This is a really nice collection of photos, thanks Evzen. A large number of the aircraft I don’t recognise. Any chance of a list of names to accompany the photos please?
