Looks like there will be a uniquely delayed first flight, and hopefully appearances on the airshow circuit, by the end of the decade.

It would make an interesting small book/magazine article on comparison of the development by different companies in different countries of the different V-12 engines in the 1930s (and 1940s ?).

Would love to see more French and polish warbirds … imagine a Karas at duxford?

Replic’Air will build 2 (two) D.551.
Let’s hope one of the magazines takes note and does an in depth report on this project. I for one would be keen to see it

Does the MS406 that flies in Switzerland have a Suiza?

There’s a C-3603 in Switzerland with a Hispano-Suiza

Is anyone currently flying a Hispano Suiza V12? Wondered how much expertise there is in support of these engines.

On a different note, would that we could get that Mig-3 over at Legends. What a beauty!

It’ll be interesting to hear how it flies. I read with some amusement Eric “Winkle” Brown’s assessment of its predecessor, the D.520:
It was a nasty little brute. Looked beautiful but didn’t fly beautifully. Once you get it on the ground, I was told not to leave the controls until it was in the hangar and the engine stopped. You could be taxiing toward the hangar and sit back when suddenly it would go in a right angle

Hi All,
Moggy,
Many thanks for that my thought lead me to think of this Mig 3 very similar in appearance….

Perhaps inspired by the Bugatti 100p success!

You are correct. It must be the longest gestation period ever, over 70 years (probably more like 75) from drawing board to first flight.

Thanks, Moggy. That is amazing!

Very nice. Am I right in translating that it will be the first ever flight of the type?
By: Sopwith - 6th November 2015 at 13:16
ok thanks Moggy

I’m pretty sure the 551 was all-metal construction but haven’t time to look it up right now.

That’s a nice project. Hadn’t heard about it before, thanks. Does anyone know if it has a wooden wing?
By: DazDaMan - 6th November 2015 at 11:58
Just making sure the crew is kept in check!
