DH Comet G-ACSS

I’m hoping to make it to some of the OW shows this year and one of the machines I’d love to see flying is the Comet racer G-ACSS.Does anyone know when it’s thought she’ll be up and running again?I’ve heard some people say she could be out of action untill 2005,which sounds a bit extreme.

Perhaps they’re giving ACSP a chance to catch up:diablo:

The sight of two DH.88 Comets in the air together would be a wondrous sight – although it would be even better if they were in formation with a Mosquito…

I think I read they’re working on modifying the undercarriage to make it more robust before it’s flown again.

The strip was extended, largely for the Comet, just a few year’s back

In case any accusations come flying my way about dodgy transactions involving DVD’s, Photographs, scanners, laptops, and used fivers, I’d just like to protest my innocence and say I wasn’t there; it must have been Snapper in disguise. 😉

(Info for those not there – the sight was so dubious that none of us were prepared to be seen taking a photo of it, which is why you’ll have to rely on your imaginations…)

Thanks JDK, these pics are reminding me rather too well about a certain RAF Boscombe Down Trout.

Unfortunately while JDK and others were hanging out the back of the HERC I was up the front reaquainting myself with my lunch.

Although I did get a birds eye view of the landing in to the much missed Hatfield.

PS JDK forgot to mention that the other highlight of the day was the return flight on Canopus!

Septic.

Does anyone have any shots of the Comet in formation with the Mossie (at Old Warden, IIRC)?

Yes, but unfortunately no operational scanner at present. 🙁

Aw shucks.

Right place, right time, RAF help, Shuttleworth ‘can do’. Really, it was a big thank you to all those that made it happen.

Cheers

Thanks, James, wonderful pictures.
I’ve actually got a copy of “Scott’s Book”.
Not the world’s best author, but a piece of history nonetheless. First edition, published while he was still on his way back from Australia.
