Now this is something you won’t see every day.
The Museum was invited to take part in the annual Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday Appeal – for those overseas, this is a pretty big day of fundraising for the RCH and last year they raised $16.4million on the day.
To cut a long story in three, the Hospital’s Auxiliary Unit contacted me and asked whether they could yarnbomb the cockpit for the day.
Well, why not I said 🙂 And the result is below and on our Facebook page. I will update the website over the weekend, but thought you would like to see the pics anyway. The Cockpit will remain covered at the Museum for the next few weeks and then the cover will be returned to the Hospital Auxiliary where it will be cut into blankets.
And the day itself was a big success – as you can see in the pic there were literally thousands there on the day – apparently well in excess of the 20,000 they were expecting. We don;t know how much we raised for the Appeal yet but our tins were very very heavy by the end of the day so thats a good start. The Museum is very proud to have been involved in such a worthwhile cause – and the cover (and aircraft) stopped many people in their tracks to take photos or have a sit inside.
Cheers

OK mmitch then I’ll take the bait and go for it!! 😀
Also I’ll personally put up a prize for the best knitted, sewn, crocheted, cross-stitched, darned, etc. etc. ‘aircraft depiction’ that is submitted for Cockpit-Fest 2014 on June 14th & 15th, 2014.
Any takers?

As I pointed out in the thread covering Duxford’s Quilt Fair, I think Twin Otter should consider another class for Cockpitfest. 🙂
mmitch.
