Thank you for the additional info cabbage and for anyone who’s interested here’s the weblink (6 days left): 🙂

While looking for the above footage I found another programme that has some interesting aviation footage towards the end; Queens Building when you could go spotting for your birthday!

~Alan~ I appreciate that it’s a long trip, but I’d like to think that it’s one well worth making; as I said before you’d be made very welcome! 🙂

~Alan~, if the museum had a pound for every time that comment was made I reckon they’d have enough funds to complete ’Project Panini’ as featured here! 😉

Why not call in next time, I’m sure that you’d be made to feel very welcome. 🙂

Yes must make the effort. It’s a bit too far for a day out, being nearly a 300mile round trip.
We only made our first visit to Elvington last month, can’t rush these things.

Have checked BBCi player web site. the programe is available on it now.

G-ANXB appears at 56.39 minutes into the recording. 1st in a black & white film, (old BEA scheme) followed by close-up shots of her in her current museum colours.

Hope this is some help to you TwinOtter.

Helo TwinOtter,
The program you are looking for is titled, ” A CENTURY IN FILM: FROM SCOTLAND WITH LOVE “.

It was broadcast at 1-o-clock this morning, on BBC4, and runs for about 70 minutes. Unfortunately I didn’t note how far into the programe the clip was shown, but I think it was in the later part (after 30 minutes). It was in colour, but I’m sorry I can’t be more precise.

Must stop and have a look sometime. We’ve been past the museum countless time, but never had the time to stop.

Thank you for the heads-up re the BBC programme, catch-up TV beckons!

G-ANXB’s operations off the Western Isles are quite well documented photographically; indeed I scanned several images from the archive for a forumite last year for a major publishing project on the type.

IIRC NAM has also hosted two visits from Scottish ladies who were born in the aircraft, whilst their expectant mothers were en route to hospital in Glasgow. Thereby making the Sir James Young Simpson name worn on the aircraft nose even more appropriate!

G-ANXB is quite close to my heart, not only did I get to fly down to Biggin Hill with a small team from NAM when its acquisition was being considered, but I was responsible for supervising its move from the ‘blast-pen area’ at Biggin Hill up to Newark on 27th October 1981. It was my decision to opt for the ferry crossing over the Thames rather than risk the potentially quick route via the tunnel. Sadly they didn’t send me out to St Lucia for the subsequent ‘spares recovery op!’ 🙁

G-ANXB is due repaint and I know that representations have been made to request that it goes into the old BEA marked scheme; whether this will happen only time (and perhaps some further lobbying) will tell! 😉

I was watching a documentry, on BBC4, last night. It was about home movies shot in Scotland in the last 100 years.

At one point, G-ANXB was seen landing on a beach, with what looked like a vintage fire engine in attendance. It was I think in the old BEA colours, rather than its current scheme.
