For anyone interested we have just posted the new dates for the open days at Derby. Anyone wanting to take a look at Black Magic will get a guided tour of the workshop and get to see the latest progress (most significantly the mock up canopy to prove the jig and the tail plane).
The first day is Sunday 27th Feb but the others are listed on the web site and you will also find a photograph of the engines with the ‘lids’ off the boxes…http://www.cometracer.com.
Sorry for the shameless plug…

With a new version coming you just hope and pray they have ditched their flight model.
I’d agree. MS scores on visuals but the flight model is certainly suspect. I’m told that X-Plane is far superior in this respect.

It makes a better helicopter than the choppers theyve coded
such an abysmal flight model in this series – a product only made good by 3rd party support (free planes / scenery etc).
With a new version coming you just hope and pray they have ditched their flight model.
My personal favorite is the rubber rudder, you jam it in, turn the aircraft staighten the rudder our and watch as a mysterious invisible rubber band pulls you right back to the heading you were originally on,
give me il2/Pacific fighters anyday.
(apologies for hijacking the DH88 thread, did I say ‘good effort!’)

Where did you find it?
It’s a standard aircraft in the FS2004 package. And he’s right, it’s a sod on or near the ground. Watch out for a humungeous take off swing, a tendency to groundloop and strange stall characteristics.

A good effort all round and well worthy of restoration no mattey how long it takes.
chanced across the dh88 on fs2004, its a ****** to land, talk about floating,
it just floats and floats and floats for miles. With the nost up you have no chance of seeing anything. – had to raise the flaps just to get it to start moving earthwards.good luck

BlueRobin,
I was a little upset with a couple of the comments that you made about the restoration of Black Magic. I am the secretary for the group and although cash is always a problem for all restorations there is certainly no shortage of willpower, enthusiasm or manpower (until we have taken delivery of the spruce for the main spars we have enough manpower to complete what we needed). Who took you round the comet restoration area during your visit? Why did you come to these conclusions? (any rash negative comments can have major impact on our ability to raise funds to complete the restoration). Please feel free to contact me via PM if you do not feel comfortable answering my queries in the open.

Now could someone furnish me with the old Frog kit of Black Magic?
Even E-B*y can’t seem to help me on this one.I’m willing to pay.
Cheers
Andy
I have plans for a control line model. I think it is for 2 x 0.49s.

Cereal packet model.
Hello,
On top of the wardrobe….with peeling stick on transfers…I found one of the cereal packet models. I seem to think it had to be sent away for…having saved some tokens.???
This DH88 was once part of the Spilsby Rail Air Centre (SRAC) collection…which few will have heard of.???!!!
It was sort of Skyfame meets OHB meets Dinting Railway Centre meets the early days of the N Yorkshire Moors Railway…my Hornby Dublo 3 rail figured largely in the reality of this..!!
The collection once included Sea Fury, Bleriot monoplane, Lanc’ nose section, Spitfire 14 and V1…..the Vampire was kept airworthy… sponsored by Sylko for Cotton Thread.. 😉
Clive.
Hope the pictures post ok…haven’t posted such for ages..!!

Apologoes for reviving an old thread. I visited Derby Eggington last Sunday. Some blrub here: http://www.bizbuzzmedia.com/blogs/plog_blog/archive/2006/03/08/1485.aspx
Dug a photo out of the archive, taken at Mildenhall in 1934 pre-race. The archive is coming along nicely by the way and will soon be available on-line.

My father has that kit amongst all his collection of Frog kits. I know he wants to sell the lot so will see what he wants for it.

Was there ever made any kits of the other Comets, or decals for all of them?
T J
There was also a fairly simple but quite nice injection kit in 1/72 or thereabouts that came free with Kelloggs Frosties (if memory serves aright) in the 70s. It had a quite heavily moulded canopy framework, but no transparent parts, but I recall thinking that the overall shape looked better than that of the Airfix kit.
Wonder if any have survived?

there was a 1/48th resin kit (very expensive) around about ten years ago.
Very rare now and I don’t know what decals it had, if any.
I’d like to get the little Frog kit as I know it had Black Magic as the decals. It might have had the RAF impressed one too.
I haven’t seen that kit in about 35 years though.
The Airfix one is so old as to be useless.
With the Czechmaster DC-2 and the Williams Bros Boeing 247 one could make a nice little display–if I could find the Frog kit.
