Did Greg Boyington purposely scream challenges at the japanese via radio?

Out of curiosity , did Major Greg Boyington shout challenges via radio to the japanese fighter pilots whenever he was strafing an airfield and found no air oppisition ?
It seems a bit of a rumour but would a man who loved his Corsair and beer first be that passionate on wanting to tangle with Zeros? . The programmes about him make him the type of person who would probably challenge Hellcat pilots for branding his Corsair “loud and uncontrolable”
