Did I just see an L-39 Albatros?

What looked very much like an L-39 Albatros* just flew over my house, about 5 miles west of Morpeth in Northumberland, heading SSE towards Newcastle Airport.

I did originally think it was a Hawk T2, but it looked like it had wing-tip tanks rather than the Hawk’s smaller wing-tip fairings, as well as wing pylons. Was it an Albatros? And if it was, where was it coming from, and indeed going to?

Regards

Simon

*PS – do they actually count as Historic…apologies if not! :p

The Grey Albatross is a regular visitor to Newcastle – its still parked up at Samson Aviation today. We see it a couple of times a month. it does look a little odd surrounded by spam cans and exec jets…..

Thanks for the replies gents. Must be the one.

What’s the story behind it? Is it a private ‘warbird’, or in ‘official’ business?
