Which do you think is the best out of these three mediums for collecting scale aircraft models? Thanks to diecast , there are far more options once thought impossible especially with warbirds thanks to companies like hobbymaster, century wings etc . With Mahogany, you have solid , durable albeit expensive scale models . Finally with plastic which is the cheapest of the mediums but you need to be skilled at painting and glueing .

Depends what you like- there are some lovely diecasts and some right dogs, and the same goes for plastic kits too. I like the way plastic kits can be customised- I rarely make a model as it comes without adding a few of my own touches- and if you’ve got reasonable research and are half decent with the glue and paint then the world’s your lobster! My efforts are far from competition-winning efforts but what the hell, I’m happy with them.

If I’m honest I have all three of these in my collection, plus some slightly larger scale stuff as well. If it looks good and I can warrant it, I’ll buy it. I like WWII aircraft so that is the basis of my collection however, Centry wings F14 1/72 is nice and recently acquired an Elite force 1/32 Phantom F4J (plastic) which now sitting in my studio. I think there is a lot of crap out there (all corgi Spitfires!)so you need to look before blindly buying your favourite aircraft. I don’t have time to build kits and haven’t made one for years (I’m pretty rubbish at them anyway). I know a brilliant kit maker and have badgered him for years to build me a 1/48 Tamiya Lancaster ( Dr Strangelove ) so would collect his aeroplanes too.
so to answer your question I like them all!
