Discovery Wings channel on TV

Does anyone watch Discovery Wings channel on cable/satellite ? I’ve just been informed by NTL that they’ll be adding it to my channel package next week and wonder if like other Discovery channels it has a tendency to show the same 5 or 6 programmes all day long ?

Any thoughts ?

Hmmm… sounds like I’ve seen most of these shows already on Discovery Channel proper. Oh well I live in hope of exciting new plane shows.

Mark Stephenson’s program was called ‘A plane is born’. He is a well known kit car builder (and UK morning TV presenter) who was filmed as he built his tri-gear Europa and completed his PPL in a Warrior at Staverton. It made a very good series and I believe is currently on the screen again with an identical series about him building a Rotorway Exec kit built helicopter!

I used to watch Discovery wings on my OnDigital box. They showed it from 6pm to 2am with 3 hours of programs that repeated. The programs were very good quality but after about 3 weeks you had seen the entire selection and they started all over again! It drove the wife up the wall!

I think it is good but the shows like Airshow! are 1997 ish air shows and the program isnt that uptodate!! I liked the program about Mark Stevenson building his own plane. It was a series about him getting a PPL and building a kit plane at the same time. It is showing in reruns. They have moderate amount of Airforces stuff but lots of Commerical!!

Hehe my mums friend is in charge of Discovery Europe and he gives me sneek previews of programs on the channel and asks my opinion:):)

RE: Discovery Wings channel on TV

We’re subscribers to NTL and have a huge package with lots of great channels.

However, NTL recently told us that instead of paying £5 to watch one Premier League football match, we could pay just an extra £1 a month to watch as many games as we wanted to. We would also get a whole host of new stations including Discovery Wings for a quid a month.

It runs from 18:00hrs – 02:00hrs and often has some good stuff on it. It does repeat everything once though, so from 6pm til 10pm you can watch 4 hours of unseen stuff and then from 10pm til 2am you get the whole lot repeated, but it has something for everyone and Flightpath is particularly interesting.

I actually watched a documentary about Air Traffic Control a few weeks back and it was so good that I watched the repeat.

If you haven’t got it, I’d certainly recommend it.
