On this thread there is a photo of the Pucara at Cosford:

I’m interested in the “barriers” around the aircraft. Are these commercially available or are they an in house production? Do they work?

ZK-BRF City of Christchurch. Sole survivor of the NAC five with some 36,000 hours up and over 32,000 takeoffs (and landings!) which we got in the mid 1970s to spare her the scrapyard. In 1993 she went to Air NZ Harewood and over the next few years gangs of old NAC retirees worked on her and then she came back to us. We’d got the hangar by then as a condition of the deal with Air NZ was that she came back to covered lodgings.
Now we’re doing the work the old guys couldn’t do. The undercarriages have been stripped out etc and that was just too hard for 70year old blokes.
She’s heading to be ready for April next year and the 60th anniversary of NAC.
The high nose attitude was to make access to the tail areas more convenient without having to use scaffolds etc, she’s sitting flat again now.

Which Viscount is this one then, Denys? Looks like an impressive restoration project!

Groan..That is just sad.LoL.There is nothing unimportant about the safety of our aircraft.A kid putting a stick up an airworthy pitot tube would be enough to make anyone have a bad day.I think thats why cockpit projects are a good idea.Lets the public get an idea what the office looks like without them wanting to get up and crawl all over the unattended display aircraft.

I think he stuck to his post, didn’t go off the rails and get enmeshed in the argument. That would have left the gate wide open for controversy.

Could that be because Mon On The Fence made no contribution to the debate? 😀 😀

Who’d have thought that a thread about barriers would have lasted so long!?
At least we all had firm opinions – nobody sat on the fence.

Yep, that has a tendancy to be effective too. No where near as much fun as going after them with the cattle prods though.

Best protection
Here in Auss the best protection against most pests is the old electric fence.Believe me,they only have to touch it once and they never will go near one again.Especially the high output ones that they use out in the scrub used against Brahman cattle, bush camels and brumbies….the odd tourist 😮

We recreated the Christchurch airport fence of the 1960s around our Viscount. We wanted people to take pix at the departure gates etc. The other week I went out to the hangar and there’s a guy on the other side. The damn thing’s above waist height…what do you do!

A few volunteers with cattle-prods would surely most effective.
And yes, I’d love to be a volunteer 🙂
😀 😀 Can I join in? that sounds like fun :diablo:

I’ve got to say the least effective method of marking the boundaries has to be painted floors (i.e. the floor painted a different colour for the walking areas). I remember being accosted by for crossing over for a closer look at some of the aircraft at Manchester. As I was focused on the aircraft in the museum, rather than the photocopied signs taped to the floor, I had missed the system. The low barriers at Hendon at least give some warning to a visitor that they are crossing the boundary.

Why is it women don’t believe wet paint signs?
