So with the nights starting to get lighter and buds starting to appear on trees my mind drifts towards the summer and all the historic aviation events that this year has to offer.
Now I’ll be going to at least a couple of Shuttleworth displays but I was wondering if anyone could make recommendations of other displays with a similar feel to them. I appear to have gone off the mass afterburning ‘tattoo fests’ I frequented in my youth and am now more in favour of smaller events with the gentle putt of a Gipsy or, even better, the crackle of a Kestrel. The participation of vintage vehicles would be an added bonus and remember, real cars have running boards!
Before anyone says it, no…I will not be at Legends…although it was nice to be there the Monday after and see the P-38 depart.
Thank you!

The Victory Show at Cosby in Leicestershire is a must-see

Two more that could fit the bill:……
Air Britain Fly-in North Weald 22nd & 23rd June……… Low key socialable event.
LAA Annual Rally Sywell. Not sure on exact dates, first Sept w/e?? Larger but good access and not much, if any, formal flying display.

Any Popham fly-in= relaxed atmosphere virtually limitless access to a/c (listen out for the marshallers whistles) and get up close and personal with our An2 if we are not booked to appear elsewhere.

Dunsfold Wings and Wheels sounds right up your street, a varied flying display with intervals for cars and bikes of all ages, shapes and sizes to blast down the runway. It’s organised by the people at Brooklands, so you get to see some of the collection cars having a good run alongside a whole host of privately owned vintage and custom vehicles.
Considering the scale of the venue, it actually feels surprisingly small and you get a good view of just about everything that goes on. You might imagine that the vehicle run is going to be a parade of distant specks but that’s not the case. The venue suits a wide variety of displaying aircraft too, so acts like the Tiger Club Turbulent team aren’t swamped but the place is still big enough to operate Hunters, Hawks etc out of.
This year’s show is August 24th/25th.

DH Moth Club rally at Woburn 17/18 August would seem to be ideal for you……

Indeed it would but very sadly I’m required to commit regicide at Bosworth that weekend. This time the Stanley’s are going to make sure Richard stays buried!
Thank you one and all. Keep them coming.

Children in Need at Little Gransden seems to fit your theme plus its not a million miles from Duxford for a combined day out.
