Displaying of Aircraft

Just visited Elvington, Newark and Flixton museums, its great to see the hard work done by all. Especially Elvington, as I was there when it was our RLG for Linton on Ouse. Easy photography and very helpfull peoples.

Duxford, only a few miles away must be my least favorite museum because it appears that everything must be under cover and hanging from a ceiling. Is this the way of the future?

Lets hope these small independant group of enthusiasts grow.

regards

Perhaps ‘under cover OR hanging from the ceiling’ would be a better description. For the time being the answer is probably ‘yes’.

I like the old airlinners, and would desperately love to see a Brittania, VC10 and BAC 1-11 under cover. Outside they probably don’t stand a chance of outlasting me, inside even if cramped and difficult to photograph at least they’ve got a chance.

Ignoring the hyperbole (How many hanging airframes at Duxford? A dozen? Certainly less than twenty.) there can be few amongst us who don’t wish that all historic aircraft were under cover when not flying.
