Dissimilar air combat

In these forum, you often hear about which plane is the best or which is not. My personal belief is that training and motivation matter much more than the plane itself. So I will cite some examples where supposedly inferior planes have shot down more advanced or modern planes or many more numerous foes solely on account of superior pilot training and motivation. This is perhaps best exemplified by the PAF’s own record:

1965
– F-86 shoot down IAF MiG-21
– F-86 shoot down 5 Hunters in 30 seconds
– F-86 shoot down 4 Vampires

1971
– F-86 shoot down MiG-21
– MiG-19 shoot down MiG-21

1973
– Pakistani flown MiG-21 shoot down Israeli Mirage III
– Pakistani flown MiG-19 shoot down Israeli F-4

1980s
– F-16 shoot down Russian MiG-29. Hushed up by Russians to hide embarassment
– Single F-16 shoot down 3 MiG-23 over Afghanistan.
