Do fighter aircrafts need FLIR?

What do you think?

Since Vietnam War Era, FLIR Equipped fighters proved to be useful, in ground attack. Pods like LANTIRN, Litening, SNIPER-XR are now widely used in fighter aircrafts.

But I am not talking about this kind of pods; I mean only FLIR, as a night vision/enhanced vision devices. I think instead of NVG, simple IR cameras could work very well..

Previously F/A-18 Hornet, and some other western fighters got these cameras, nowadays it seems more expensive IRST system are prefered..
