Hey guys and gals, got my first flight sim today from the bargain bin of a games store. It’s “Search and Rescue 3”, picked it up for £2 which ain’t bad. Problem is when I choose my chopper and the game itself starts, the screen starts flickering like mad. I can see the game through the flickering screen and the sim responds to all my commands from the keyboard so I know it is playing, so what’s wrong? Do I need a faster processor or a 3D card thingy? I know zip about these things and the manual from the game offers no help so any advice is appreicated

How to ID your computer components.
A simple download of a computer profiler will cover all you need to first ID the components and then using that information find out exactly what they are capable of. One such i have always found useful is BERLAC ADVISOR available from http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Just follow the lilnk and click on the download box for a free copy.
After it has installed allow it to run and it will present you with a a page of details describing every component both hardware and software that make up your machine.
The problem you are having sounds more like a driver issue which a simple update should cure but before that I suggest setting the graphics to there lowest settings a gradually work them up till you get acceptable levels.

From the reviews I saw about that game, I’m not sure I’d pour a lot of money in a computer to run it …

Go to www.crucial.com/uk and look for ” Scan My System” or similar. This will download a small program which will tell you about your motherboard, RAM and graphics. Log on to the motherboard makers website and get all their information about the onboard graphics. Crucial’s scan also suggests compatible upgrade memory and graphics, and tells you what slots you have and which are empty, if any.

Geoff.

Hello. You will need to find out if you have PCI-e or AGP slots. The answer to you question is YES! and a shed load of memory and a fast processor. If you want to do it justice it costs 🙁

I have some sort of inbuilt 3D card, the PC I have was home made by someone (bought it second hand from Cash Con’) and to be honest I’m not sure exactly what I have but I do know I have played various other sims and 3D games in the past with no problems. As far as the screen goes, it’s a cheapy flatscreen built by Vusys.

What card do you have at the moment? Also, flat or CRT screen (he said suspecting a refresh rate problem)?
