RE: DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?

No, as I was raised in a predominantly Christian country and attended Christian schools up to Year 8, most of my morals and ethics are based on Christian fundamentals, but I do not believe in God.

RE: DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?

🙂 It’s obviously ‘God’s will’ that I’m an Atheist! 🙂

As far as ‘life after death’ goes, I have no memories from before I was born, so why should I be so presumptuous as to assume that anything at all spiritual will happen after I die?
Why can’t people just accept that when they die, ‘that’s it’ there is nothing more.

The real problem is fear, fear of the unknown……….

RE: DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?

I believe in god i’m a protestant. But i don’t believe in organised religion like churches,
It’s my!!! belief that God loves everything i believe in heaven but not hell and when you die you go to heaven but when your on earth your’ve just got do do what you think is right pretty good huh made it up myself and that’s the way i’ve lived the last 3 years. works pretty good.
to be honest the only thing that scaries me more than vegemite is thta if there is no God and therfore no heaven what happens to our souls i can’t imagine not existing what happens when we died do our soul just become nothing do we lose conscience that scaries the sh!t out of me and is the main reason i believe in God there is just too much unexplained sh1t in the world God ties it up in a neat bundle so i can concentrate on more important things like b00bies!!!!

RE: Who do you believe in?

I’m an atheist.

We all need to believe in something????????

I suppose I believe in my fiance and my parents rather than “god”.

RE: Who do you believe in?

I’m a baptised, comfirmed Roman Catholic. As far as the God issue… I’m at an uncertain stage. I believe there’s something there… but I’m not sure what.

RE: Who do you believe in?

I am a Baptized Christian and have always been one. I do believe in God, though I’m not as dedicated to religion as some are. I agree with what Harry said, we must indeed be careful with this topic as it may not be the most suitable thing, even for this board.

Who do you believe in?

Regardless of whether or not you believe in God, a number of people have said they believe in themselves. This is an admirable premise, but there are times when we all need to believe in something or someone else, be it God, a cause or a friend.

As for God, I cannot have any belief in or any time for a supreme being who has so little time or compassion for the innocent victims of life. I have worked with children and adults with terminal or life-threatening illnesses or conditions and have seen them lose their battles for life in the most awful ways. Any belief or respect I may have had for ‘God’ disappeared with my innocence.

Regards,

kev35

I know this may be controversial but it is my opinion. I have the utmost respect and even envy for those able to live their lives with faith and in the sanctity of their God, whoever that may be.

RE: DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-04-02 AT 08:08 PM (GMT)]This is difficult, i don’t believe in god but i do believe in a creator!! (no Dad jokes!!)

i too like many of you have been baptised, i go to church at all the required occassions (Easter, a few sundays a year, marriages,). i tend to believe things when i see them with my own eyes but that doesn’t stop me in having FAITH for a greater being at work.

If life exists somewhere out in the universe then the whole concept of religion would be thrown into doubt and here is a paradox for you…For god to exist he would have to “see” the universe from all its different time periods past, present and future!! (i heard this from a physics professor i once knew!!!)

regards

p.s sensitive or not we are here in a discussion forum chattin about all subjects under the sun so why the worry

Excellent comment squasher.

Personally I don’t even believe in life after death, let alone a supreme creator.

RE: DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?

I believe in God, I dont believe in following any organised Religion !!

I make that distinction because religion is a man-made system that dictates a way of life by following certain rituals, the fear of God being a “punishment” for not adhereing to these rules. God doesnt need “agents” to do his work. Acknowledging him

I feel that if you are mature enough, you can devise your own way of living without having to follow customs or traditions.

For me God is a benovelent energy, not an old man sitting on some cloud, performing miracles to show people that he exists. His presence in my mind gives me hope and great mental peace. That for me is God.

RE: DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?

When I studied physics (some time ago now…) all the physisists I knew beleived in God. Einstein and Newton (and probably Rutherford, Tesla, Mandeleev etc) all beleived in God.

I’m not saying that I beleive in God because of them but it is reassuring to know that men who know so much more about the way the universe works also beleive.

Religion doesn’t cause war. People cause war. Relegion is often a handy excuse but people would easily find another one (terrorism, oil, ideology, power, money, land… shall I go on?).

RE: DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?

I’, actually someone who has to see proof of something before I can actually beleive in it, so I have to say no.

To be honest I just can’t understand anyone who will do so much for something that nobody has ever seen evidence that actually exists. I personnaly can’t understand people who live their lives according to religion, but its a bit of a touchy subject so I’ll stop there.

Just one other thing is that religion is the biggest cause of conflict in the world (look at most wars) and I just can’t believe in somthing that is the cause of so much distress.

RE: DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?

If I believed in a god……………………..lol

well there arent any firm explanations anyway you look at things I think everyone believes in somthing different personally I believe in myself- i have no need to entrust my destiny to anybody or anyone else. thats no offence to anyone else here because we are all free to believe in what we want to, and this should, and i do respect that I think. I think thats good as long as you have a full and proper understanding of the world around you ,and are not blinkered into a one path life. I think learning is one of the greatest things out there. It upsets me to know that a great deal of UK school children dont know who Winston Churchill is, and that all around the world round learning is dropping off in schools to concentrate less time on less subjects its a shame.

coanda

I just cant understand how someone can be soo devoted to one belief that they can set themselves on fire in the street.

RE: DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?

I’m a christian, I was baptised, but I don’t have that religious feeling. I do believe in something, but not what the pope is telling us, or what the bible says. I do believe in reincarnation, maybe I should switch religions 🙂
