Guilty as charged….

Currently i’ve got about 450 complete 1/72 aircraft and about another 500 unbuilt ones currently acting as loft insulation. I like to think of it as a wide ranging collection as I cover everything from a 1909 Bleriot, to the BAe Typhoon (in the juicy black scheme with 43sqn marks) but to be honest it’s mainly a WW2 collection with a bias towards british aircraft. Ive had a couple of awards at my local model club (including one for a Vacform kit of a Westland Welkin), so I can’t be too bad at it.

I’d love to show off by posting some photos but while I’m good with the camera and it seems the plastic, I havent yet mastered scanning photos into the PC.

Appropriate for this site is the following question:

Why don’t any decal manufacturers produce sets for preserved aircraft. Other than the BBMF and Sally B in her original scheme, none have been availible.

I’ve recently built the Breitling fighters in 1/72 and had real trouble with some of the markings, all of which came from the spares box. It would be nice to have a sheet for these aircraft, and those like CANDYMAN or TFC’s Hurricane for example.

Yup, ‘fraid so…

Allthough I havent built any since moving to Cyprus. I do have in ‘stock’ however, waiting for me in storage back in the UK, two kits by Lindberg of a Victor and also a Vulcan !. I made up one Vulcan and for a little known company in the UK, I have to say that the standard of moulding was pretty damn good.

And now for the bad news…I shot all my kits up with my trusty air rifle cos they wouldn’t have survived the trip out here.

To make amends tho’, my 11 year old son now has the modelling bug and has so far got a Black Widow, Chinook, SU27 and a Typhoon in various stages of build / bodge / covered in glue’y’ fingerprints !.

I have no doubt I will be called in to rescue the wrecks…cant wait !

Now you guys, I’m not knocking your worthy efforts, but after seeing what this guy does I felt my attempts in my youth were just inadequate!

Here’s a few pics of my newly completed 1:72 Airfix Gloster Javelin.Sorry the pics aren’t great quality,I’m experimenting with a new digi cam.I’ve got a whole host of other kits on my shelves,and I’ll try and take some pics of em in the near future.I’m just getting started on the 1:48th Tamiya SeaHarrier FRS.1,and I’ve got an Me262,Tempest and a Sikorsky CH53 in various stages of completion,all in 1:72 scale.

I Do. next to my desk I have 4 1:48 Hasegawa Hawker Typhoons (the 4 versions) in various build stages, 4 Revell 1:32 Hawker Typhoons (1 started), a Tamiya 1:48 Mk1 Spitfire (unstarted) and a Revell 1:32 Spit Mk 1. All of these are going into 609 (WR) Squadron markings. Upstairs are 4 Tempest Mkv’s, which will be R-B, RP-B, and a couple of others (including Van Lierde’s) – they are in various stages.

Made up are around a dozen 1:32 Revell / Hasegawa fighters (and 2 uncompleted kits – Beaufighter and BF110), maybe 30 1:72 fighters, and a halfmade 1:48 Mustang. Goddamn internet disturbs me too much!!!

Gotta get me 609’ers made up. bah.

Currently hanging up in my sons’ bedroom, I have 3 Tamiya 1;48th Lancasters, a B29, DC3, C130, and some smaller 1;48th models- Tornado, Phantom, Buccaneer etc…
What will I do with them when my boys grow up and leave home?? I wont have an excuse anmore and my wife keeps looking at them with a pair of sharp scissors in her hand .!

Just practise – I dont tend to worry about being too accurate. You will notice those ground crew are actually Russian infantry…

Get a piece of thin wood or a ceiling tile, paint the base brown. When its dry, cover it in PVA glue. When thats dry, buy some flock from a model railway shop – I have 6 bags of it – and lay down whatever colour you like. Keep doing this till your happy with the shade. If you want raised areas, ie bumpy ground, do it with PVa glue and shape it, ie ploughed field.

Buy any of the following:

Haswegawa ground sets have trolleys, helmets, figures and veichles, all modern USAF.

Esci do a great set of wooden watch tower, crates, spikes and barrells.

Airfix do a lovely Japanese outpost, a British control tower, and a ruined building.

The list is endless, Hannants have a good range.

I’d start off simply building a bit of land with some concrete, and place a veichle of any era on it. (or plane) let your imaination do the rest – has it overshot the runway, is it a helicopter landing in a field (mines a Huey landing on a beach)is it a section of aerodrome etc.

Then you can add fences, trees, barrels, crates, whatever you want.

Nice one. I make 1/72 models, and those are way better, although I am improving. What I do want to know, is how you make dioramas etc. I cannot find info anywhere.
