I know most of the users on these forums collect some sort of a/c models, but do you collect anything other than a/c modles? For example cars, stamps etc?
I collect Model cars and the corgi Original omnibus bus collection.
My car models include, 3 old minis and two new ones, all made by corgi, a couple of jaguars, a peugoet 406 made by minichamps and a 1:18 scale american police car.
My bus collection includes, two trolly buses, 5 coaches and 16 other buses, again all made by corgi.
When I was smaller, I used to collect phone cards, by the time I stopped collecting, I had over 600 of them! 🙂
Look forward to hearing you repliers 🙂

RE: Do you collect anything other than aircraft models?
Our gun laws aren’t too bad.
To buy a gun a licence is required.
There are several categories of licence from the A class licence for Rifles and Shotguns to Dealers licences, Pistol licences, collectors licences and MSSA licences.
The MSSA licence is Military Style Semi Auto licence.
A MSSA is defined as an automatic rifle with any of the following:
A free standing pistol grip (except where the weapon is classed as a pistol… a pistol is any weapon shorter than about 76.2cms)
A centrefire magazine capacity of more than 7 rounds, or rimfire capacity of more than 15 rounds or a magazine that looks like it is long enough to have that capacity. (ie a 7 round mag that is the same length as a 30 shot mag if fitted to a semiauto rifle makes that rifle a MSSA).
A flash suppressor, or a bayonet lug are also considered features that class an automatic rifle as a MSSA.
Pistol, MSSA, Dealers and Collectors licences require much stricter rules… ie to get a pistol licence you must be a member of a pistol club for 6 months before you can even apply for a licence.
For all licences you must prove to the police that you have a secure place to store the firearms and ammo.
Pistol, MSSA, Dealers and Collectors licences require better security than standard licences.
These rules seem to work. It is very rare to hear of any crimes commited by people with pistols… more often than not it turns out to be replicas or waterpistols.
The Rifles I collect are Mosin Nagant Bolt Action rifles that can be held under a standard licence.
My AK and SLR both have thumbhole stocks and 7 round mags, and comply fully with the law as sporting rifles… which is of course all I use them for.
It is a bit annoying only having 7 round mags for the AK as I use it for goat hunting. If I could use a 30 round mag I’d just fill that and then I’d have all of my ammo in one place. With 7 round mags I fill the mag and carry a box of 20 rounds which is not the best option in my opinion.
With all the ammo in one mag I can remove it and eject the round from the chamber and replace it in the mag and know all of my ammo is in one place and the gun is safe.
With boxes of ammo in my pocket and perhaps more than one mag it is less tidy.
Still if that is what they want that is what I’ll do.

Hey does NZ have a gun control law? Do you have to get it as a hunting equipment? I know most of the world have strict laws against guns….how’s NZ.

RE: Do you collect anything other than aircraft models?
old CPUs, 68000, x86s, etc…and old RAMs….and their respective datasheets…and other peripherial chips i guess, 82C55A PPIs etc…you know instrumentation chips are pretty fun too, like accelerometers, rate-gyros, pressure sensors, temp sensors, ADCs, DACs, etc…yeah i know, it sounds geeky, that’s what i said before (i’m not a accredited EE, but am one as AE)until i found out how fun it really is….the idea is to use it differently from what it’s intented for…lots of brain storming.

RE: Do you collect anything other than aircraft models?
Hi Ashley.
Do you mean you really are a woman?
Of course, I know you are and mean no disrespect to you or any other female members of the forum. I take the word ‘guys’ as a generic term for a group of people, many of whom I would like to consider as friends. To me the word is not really gender specific. As it appears that I have unintentionally caused offence I will refrain from using the expression.
Sorry to all.

This is me going away now feeling suitably chastised.

Saab,
You say you collect Porsche models, have you got a subscription to the new Porsche magzine with free model every week? £1.99 for first week and then £4.99 afterwards! 😀
But in answer to the question, I don’t collect anything 🙁

RE: Do you collect anything other than aircraft models?
I also collect model racecars of the “MiniChamps” and “Vitesse” variety but confined to CART, World Rally and F1 machines in that order of preference.
I have a weakness for military (not to mention military aviation) books, magazines, prints, etc. In land warfare my particular interest is 19th Century cavalry units and operations with special focus on the American Civil War and British colonial wars.

RE: Do you collect anything other than aircraft models?
Hi guys.
Yes, I’m a bit of a Magpie. I have a number of aviation prints and models. I also collect militaria. I am fortunate to have in my posession medals awarded to family members for both the First and Second World War. I also collect WWI postcards and any other paper ephemera I can get my hands on. I collect military badges and old military photographs, silks, books, really anything connected with the personal side of war.
So, if any of you have anything in that line you want to get rid of let me know, maybe we could do a deal?
Regards,
kev35
