Do you practise sports?

Well, you got to stay healthy, right? What kind of sports do you do in one week?

This is my list

2 x 6km of jogging
4 x 1.5km of swimming
and once in a week I go cycling in Flanders or Holland.

Anyone else?

Nothing at the moment, I’m ashamed to say, more taxing than taking my hooligan hound (otherwise known as my Labrador) out walking three times a day. In the past I’ve enjoyed karate, swimming and horse riding.

Mountain biking, once to four times a week. The flatness of Holland has put me off the place. No downhilling to get rid of all that pent up aggression. If you need some really lumpy stuff for biking get yourself down to the Alps on the train. It’s really cheap to rent an appartment in the Austrian Alpes in the summer an the cycling is spectacular. Their hospital casualty departments are first rate too. I only had to wait a few minutes to be seen.

Used to play Street Hockey with my flatmates/colleagues when I first came to Germany. Now that could get a bit “competitive” at times.

My sporting interest have been mainly Rugby and Martial arts.
However I suffered a serious knee injury last March and this put me out of action totally until May this year..
Hence my health suffered..
BP is high and I have put on unwanted weight…
Still it gives me more of an incentive to get back at it..
Just got too wait for clearance from Physio and Doctor before I can get back to the Kung Fu etc..

Euhh… that would mean i either don’t live in the Netherlands, or that you are wrong. The place my flat is on is an astonishing 86 metres above sea level. If you don’t get vertigo from looking in that terrible abyss: the highest point in the Netherlands is 326 metres above the sea. It’s at the place where the borders of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany (and Moresnet, if anyone cares for a bit of obscurity) meet.

Way too easy ! Too flat over there. Riding 50 km without seeing a single hill is so boring. :p

Not if you maintain a speed of about 27 km/h. But Belgium is a hell to cycle, the Netherlands are better organised. Today had a nice trip to the region south of Eindhoven.

Once a week I indulge in a session of a new extreme sport. It involves propelling myself around Morrison’s supermarket in my wheelchair. It started off ok but has now intensified into a contact sport. I’ve manged to beat the old lady in her electric wheelchair twice but last week she became aggressive and forced me into the video display aisle. I’ll get her back tomorrow though.

I also have a couple of quiet games of draughts. Subbuteo was good but the hooligan element caused too much trouble.

Regards,
