Doctor Who!

Is anyone else as sick to death of the BBC’s and media hype for this 50th anniversary as I am, notwithstanding the fact that it was off air for 16 of those 50 years!! It was quite good fun when I watched it occasionally with my son in the early 70s and the Daleks and Cybermen were enjoyable monsters, and he did his fare share of watching from behind the sofa, but it appears to have become a cult major drama which is not even shown at a time when young children can watch it. I have seen two of the more recent episodes and really wonder what all the fuss is about. My grandson of course strongly disagrees!!;)

Stands by for flak from hardened fans!!

A Dalek squirted water over my grandson and me in our car ominously chanting “Car wash, car wash, car wash!” Very frightening……

WHY can’t you keep your nose out?. As I have told YOU before, Chas has NO P.M. box, would YOU give me YOUR private Email address or phone number ?,no, you wouldn’t, we all respect each others privacy, I suggest you do also.

If you’re exchanging your private trivia on an open forum then how in God’s name can you complain about privacy? Your behaviour is no different to those who shout down mobile phones in supermarkets. Rude and unnecessary. Some of us log on, check for replies in a thread we might be interested and it turns out to be a personal, wildly, off-topic exchange between you two. Again. Tiresome in the extreme.

We all have PM boxes if we chose to switch them on, Linc. I choose not to, that’s all. Moggie wrote “Eh?”, because you suggested I didn’t have one.:)

Why can’t you two just exchange e-mail addresses or phone numbers instead of clogging up the forum with your off-topic exchanges? I wouldn’t mind but it’s every day on every flamin’ thread. 😡

Doctor Who was part of my childhood back in the sixties, and I can still remember the Saturday afternoon TV line up of wrestling on World of Sport, Doctor Who, and Jukebox Jury. The thing labelled Doctor Who now though seems to bear little relationship to the programme I knew. Think I liked Jon Pertwee best, and couldn’t stand David Tennant with all that over-acting and those manic eyes.

Saw the special, watched it with the kids. I was the only one to make it to the end though, it was much too confusing and made huge leaps of belief. Mind you, it can’t be any worse than that bunch they had after Tom Baker in the 1980s – is it any wonder that it was dropped?
And yes, where was Peter Cushing in the line up? A bit like leaving David Niven out of the James Bond list.

…Billie Piper has had a degree of success hasn’t she?

Yes, but she was extremely successful before Dr Who…

…in fact, I think the trend is for well-known actors, singers, comediennes to ‘cameo’ on the show, these days.

That’s a shame. I liked Looe – an old maiden aunt lived there so I haven’t been for about 40 years!! Good to know it’s not all bad! John Le Carre lives not that far from Dawn French in great privacy and the same spectacular views. Yes but they’ve earned it so good luck to them!:)
