Anyone out there that knew my Grandfather he was a life long RAF man
John (Jack) Turnock
don’t know much about his early service would like to though
His last years were at RAF Halton as an armaments instructor
I remember as a kid going with him to work and playing in some aircraft with the shark mouth nose art on them early 70’s
this started my life long love of warbirds

Hi Russell
Might be worth registering on the armourers website,it is quite a ‘close’ trade, even where I work now the bombheads tend to walk round in pairs (or more),very rarely see them on their own 🙂

Yes it is
I know he was a warrant officer
Anything anyone could find out would be appreciated
I now live in FL and I am starting a small museum in my hanger in memory of him & what he gave to me.

Would that have been 512827 Warrant Officer J. Turnock who was Mentioned In Dispatches in the LG for 1 Jan 1946?

Unfortunately they carry no picture.
But it’s still a great thing to have. I have my Dad’s here.

As a relative I believe you can request his service records.

Like Agcat,[114th?] he was one of my instructors too when I was at Halton.

Hi Russell
You could also try on the Bombheads own website…RAF Armourers

PS I was at Halton whilst he was an instructor…but I was a rigger brat so our paths would not have crossed !

Russell: I remember your grandfather as one of our instructors at Halton in the period 67 – 70. Don’t have any pics of him I’m afraid. You might try the Trenchard Museum at Halton because as well as pictures of the Apprentices they also have some data on the instructors.
