Does Derby have a datalink / MCU capability?

Does Derby have a datalink / MCU capability?

Most people say it doesn’t have a datalink / MCU capability, being able only to have INS orientation if the LOAL is used. This would be a quite serious handicap.

BUT there’s an advertisement by Rafael in a Brazilian magazine (Revista Força Aérea, n. 36, set 2004) clearly saiyng “receptor de data-link”, which obviously translates as “datalink receptor”.

Other Rafael advertisements, from 2005, don’t mention any kind of datalink.

What are your opinions? There seems to be a generalized opinion about the Derby not having datalink / MCU capability, in most military / aviation online mags and forums, but that ad clearly goes against that.

Derby does have a datalink. The information was in Jane’s Missiles and Rockets, December 2001. Eitan Barzilai, Marketing Manager of Rafael’s Air-to-air Directorate, stated that when the Derby was unveiled in May or 2001 the datalink capability (which they do refer to as an up-link, as is seen in the picture somebody posted above) was still classified.

IIRC Ads issued for Derby in Indian def mags (Vayu?) used the word “data-link”.

Just too lazy to find the old issues and look them up.

I thought Jane’s reported a while back that there was in fact a midcourse update, even though it wasn’t mentioned at first when the Derby was revealed?

That’s interisting, as Pit mentioned in this ACIG thread, page 2:;

He quoted JALW. Does anyone of you have this Jane’s text, or a confirmation of its existance?

Could it be absent in the export version?

does not mention MCU capability..However if it is not present i bet there are some serious efforts to Add one..The isreilis are known to be working on several varients of the Alto , the derby being the export version…Lack of a MCU is a serious disadvantage specially when modern missiles being developed have 2-way datalinks.

Could this Up Link Receiver indicate the presence of a datalink?
