Okay, brace yourself, Ryanair may have come up with a good idea 😮 The company are looking into wider doors for their aircraft to encourage more speedy boarding and faster turnarounds

Sound good? Well, I think there may be a flaw in their logic. Wider doors are great, but what happens when the passengers hit the narrow (single track) aisle? Won’t things bottleneck into the “take your seat” free for all?

In theory not a bad idea but usaully when the aircraft parks at the terminal it usually has 1 airway so only one door can be used anyway (usually). Maybe a slightly wider ailse, so when people are putting lugage into the bins or having to get back out of their seat to let other passengers into the middle window seats, passengers can still pass (of a sorts).

If Ryanair are willing pay for the structural mods required then I’m sure someone will oblige. 🙂
Putting in a freight door would be perfectly feasible and would perhaps sum up what Ryanair thinks of its passengers.
Wouldn’t a wider door mean potentially less seat rows?

If the aircraft was high-winged, a 3rd set of doors around half way might be an improvement for that. But, a low winged aircraft is kinda restrained in that regard by the presence of the wing itself.
Like the idea of a high-winged aircraft, but wouldn’t that rack up the cost? I don’t think Ryanair would go for it. This is the company who proposed removing toilets to make room for seats

Personally, I have always found the bottleneck to be aisle movement/people getting seated/people using the overhead lockers as the bottleneck.
