I wonder if this starts a L&H quotes theme.
Stan: “Well, I don’t know anything about cutting wood.”
Ollie: “Well, you ought to. You once told me your father was in the lumber business.”
Stan: “Well, I know he was but it was only in a small way.”
Ollie: “What do you mean small way ?”
Stan: “Well, he … he used to sell toothpicks.”

“He died of a Tuesday”
Class.I wonder if this starts a L&H quotes theme.

I somehow never found Bob Hope amusing i’m afraid…as far as Abbot and Costello go they weren’t a patch on the Greatest comedy duo the world has ever known...i have nearly every movie and short Mr Laurel and Mr Hardy ever made all digitally remastered onto DVD

Once upon a time (in the west, in a galaxy far, far away, whatever), I used to find The Simpsons funny. Hell, it was required viewing on Channel 4 in the days before I had satellite TV.
Now, I cannot be arsed with it. The original stuff has ceased to be funny and the new stuff is not even hit OR miss these days – just plain old miss.
There was one episode where Marge proudly proclaimed that “You can’t stop the Simpsons!” I wish to God somebody would…

Larry David – Curb Your Enthusiasm – comedic gold!
Very dry humour!!!

The nippers do not get more than half the jokes man!
As for US humour not being funny etc.
Bob Hope? (OK, so Monkhouse wrote most of the stuff)
Frasier?, Cheers? The list goes on, but when it comes to the absolute side splitting stuff, only the Brits, and usually the BBC, can do it.
I’ve laughed my socks off at some US stuff, but it’s usually a very simple humour.
Oh, and we must alway pay homage to Abbot and Costello, under-rated in the UK for some reason. “Who’s on third” is one of the all time classics.

Neither am I,but the Simpsons definitely isn’t the usual abysmally unfunny American pap. It’s a very British sort of humour and exceptionally witty.Try it,it’s brilliant.

Sorry, I’m not a fan of American humour most of the time as I it reminiscent of a bunch of six year olds. Oh sorry they are far more intelligent than that. I have to confess that on odd occasions Futurama has made me smile and I’m still a Muppets fan.

[QUOTE=Pondskater;1384004]I watched the Simpsons with a friend’s 14-year-old daughter – we never laughed at the same thing. Tough to write comedy to appeal to several audiences at once.
I like the incidental characters: “Hello, I’m Rupert Murdoch, the Billionaire tyrant” which 14 year-olds don’t think is funny.[/QUOT If you watch it regularly you’ll see why it’s so popular.Perfect relaxation and a very British sense of humour.

I think the Simpsons is a family show my 6 year old brother likes it and my dad likes it. But i think Family Guy is much better

Anyone else think the Simpsons is just for kids ?
By: Future Pilot - 20th March 2009 at 23:49
It’s a childrens show for goodness sake…my Grandchildren watch it!!!
I think you’ll find yourself in a serious minority Steve, it’s made by adults remember ;). Hardly a childrends show, more a family show and a damn good one at that :D.
