Done but far from dusted

Aviatiors non aviatiors bubble trap pilots, I have some news;

At last flying on the terms of medical standards has pulled it’s weight for me, something which comes just to some people and not others. I have not had a reply off the FAA about my class 2 medical and I most likely wont so if that does not work, and whats the chances of me passing, then this is the way im going. I have been left with two options, glider instructor or microlight instructor. As I do not glide I have decided to take microlight instructor and hey I have even got the right medical to do that, it sits in my room in my flight bag as I smile and write this. As I am training for the NPPL once I have gained my licence I will be required to do a five hour microlight course which will be added onto my NPPL as another rating. From this I need to build up a total time of 100hours to start a 15hour instructor course.

(Hours from my NPPL flying PA-28S can go towards these hours, but I do need five hours on microlights as the aircraft Im going to instruct on, whilst building hours I can have the best of both worlds by flying both PA-28S and keaping valid once a month or maybe if I have the money more on microlights.
When the time comes with the hours I can do the 15hour instructor rating I need to do and it’s just added onto the NPPL.

As for the R.A.F, its not until 18 and I don’t think I could compete wit people who had A-LEVELS and already tonnes of gliding expericance, so my future is in making money from instructing microlights.

I have made it chaps…your views….

Thanks all, Steve microlight pilots are subjected to different rules but my first job probally wont be instructing as most clubs require 500hours or more, yes I know the hours are low, thats why you never get a job with that few.

My first job will probally be glider towing to build up some hours.

Well done that man. I really do hope it works out for you.

You will never be rich. You and eating might just be passing strangers, but you’ve had the b*lls to set your mind on something and go for it.

Great!

First off, congratulations! I know you’ve been quite concerned about the medical, and whether it would limit you, and so it’s great to see that there are doors open to you. Well done!

My only question – and it is a genuine question, as I really don’t know the answer – is whether you can act as a PAID instructor on Microlights with theoretically just 115 hours (the hundred, then the 15 hour course) and an instructors course under your belt? Are Microlight licence holders subject to different legalities (versus PPL’s) with regard to flying for hire and / or reward? If so, it’s fabulous news for you, but if you’ve got any doubt, I’d urge you to check it out.

Steve
