My dad used to paint the Victory when under punishment (Jankers).
He served on HMS Anson just before the end of WW2.

hampden98.
I went on Victory, a few yrs ago, and a chap was on the top deck, caulking what they call “The Devils line” This is the gap between the two longest planks of wood on the main deck.
I went to take a photo, and the Guide said, this was not allowed, as it was, according to Navy tradition to be bad luck to take any sailor, caulking these two planks.
Where the brass plaque was, on the deck, would this have been on the Devils Line, where Nelson fell, thus being bad luck?.
Or just a load of B/S ?.
Did you manage to find the “GOLDEN RIVET”. OOOps, another which should have gone onto the Breakfast Post 😉

I took the missus on the Victory a few weeks ago.
The guide gave us a tour of the gun deck, then the top deck and pointed to a small, raised plaque and said “This is where Nelson fell”. To which the missus replied “yeah, and I nearly tripped over it!”. :dev2:

Well that’s yesterday now, but today in 1962 was the day of Kennedy’s speech announcing Soviet missiles in Cuba and the start of the blockade.
