Put this in an hour ago to show why/how I was saved to be at Duxford tomorrow – my longest journey in 15 years! – but it’s not showing. Apologies if I repeat!

And I did not have the chance of thanking him.

Just to echo this is a fascinating thread and once again thanks to you and all those who didn’t survive for what you did, it is still appreciated.

In one word – knackered – after 6 hours on the m’way. Even though well chauffeured. And getting in & out of the Spitfire in front of those cameras showed my age!!
Post war? Mostly flying a mahogany desk! But interspersed with commanding RAF Turnhouse &, later, Apprentice Wing, Locking, multi training on Oxfords & Varsities, a bit of Meteor 7, 600 hours on a Shackleton squadron, escorting the Red Pelicans to Nigeria, i/c Escape Systems & Rescue for 3 years in MoD, Defence Protocol, Air 1 at CFS …………………………..??
And then 30 years Fine Art, Picture Framing, Conservation…………………………………….

I still struggle to believe the variety (the UKs most decisive air battle, flying from carriers, dealing with minus temperatures and snow on Eastern front – all in one type) of tasks pilots had to go through back then, can you do a resume of your post-war career?
How did your day go today?

Thank you so much for all your stories. Just makes me feel so humble when I boast about my service. I often doubt if I could have performed when it really mattered.

So am I right in understanding that you flew the Hurricane in anger in the Battle of Britain, Murmansk, and off the catapaults on CAM ships Tim?
PS, have a fantastic day today, looks like the best weather of the year has turned out for you.

Like this, Mark?
And, of course, you’ve seen Atoll’s DVD & that of my US chum – http://www.2gvsap.org/video/151_0805.wmv?

A year later
Tim
I was thinking last night it would be nice for one Hurricane in the UK – or even the IIB with the BBMF to be painted in the colours of a Hurricane of 81/134 Sqn, 15 Wing.
Next year is the 70th Anniverary of that little episode as well and would be nice to see a RAF/Russian number combination.
Have a great day. Weather should be lovely.
regards
Mark

I would echo Pagen01’s comments, Tim….as I am certain we all would.
I am sure the caption should be:
“Ah….and as for number 18! Why, he was a tricky one to bag!”
Enjoy your day out. I will certainly buy my first ever copy of The News of The World on Sunday.

Tim.
I’ll second that from Pagen01
I am PM’ing you my e-mail address. If you ever have difficulties with posting, images, whatever, just drop me a note.
Your contribution to the forum (Plural = fora) is too valuable to go astray.
What is happening at Duxford tomorrow?

Tim, I’m truely grateful that you, and people like you, post on forums. You are the tangible link to a time when a few gave their best for the many.

Tim….an amazing story.
I often think of the time that you turned up unexpectedly at my office in Hastings some years ago and I hope that I extended appropriate hospitality?
Thought you might be interested to see a shot of the man who nearly got you looking at the victory tabs on his rudder. I think you were number 16?
