dark light

Don't you just hate it when people do this?

Why are some owners of aircraft (and helicopters) so selfish when they bring their interesting machines to air shows, only to cover them up so you can’t see them properly and then promptly set-up-camp right in front of their beloved machine? What’s the point of bringing it if no one can view or photograph it? Kemble today – yes it WAS HOT, but this is not a family car!
Can you imagine everyone that wanted a decent picture of this machine to have to keep asking them to move and take the cover off? What do others think – are these people being selfish and thoughtless or is it a case of ‘its their helicopter and they do what they want’? 😡

Now imagine putting the bucket over the lady’s head. The clothes still look the same, but…

How about a brown paper bag then? :diablo:

By ‘similarly presented’ I assumed you meant it had a cockpit cover on.

There were no people near it during much of the morning and when the show had finished…

My luck, typically. I wasn’t able to get to the show until noon and had to leave at five. So in those five hours I managed to attend, people – civilians in bright clothing at that – were on, in or in front of the helo. No cover though, but just as unphotographable. Bummer…

There’s also the “clueless idiot” aspect.. the one that springs to mind is Ben Affleck when filming Pearl Harbor. He sat in the PoF P40 playing with all the switches without ANY clue what any of them did & when told to keep his bloody fingers off he told the *plane sitter* that if he didn’t want people playing with the switches then he shouldn’t rent out his aircraft to the movie companies…

He was then *educated* by the plane sitter…. :dev2:

another point I forgot about spotters: many of them are selfish.
Ok, u paid the ticket (like the others did), u have the right to take all the pics u want(like the others do..), but please, leave at home your darn portable ladders! There are other ppl behind yr arse that would like to shoot a video or take an “amateur picture”, the fact that u r a pro (or u think u r..) doesnt allow u to behave like an a$$.

AFH10,

Could I suggest that perhaps one of the owner’s pleasures might be taking it around for people to look at and photograph. Those people will almost certainly include peers and fellow owners.

Personally in this case I totally respect the owners right and privilege to protect his perspex. I think I would have engaged the owner and enquired when the aircraft was ‘on stage’ or departing if it was that vital to get the shot.

Mark

Indeed it is, we reguarly take our aircraft to various shows for just that reason and as others have said, I would always be willing to let others access to them if possible and accomodate their wishes if they were reasonable but at the end of the day I and I suspect other owners do become a bit peeved with some attitudes that lead to this sort of complaint. By some I do realise that most enthusiasts are completely reasonable and it is only a very few who get a bit a***y.

Thanks for the correction Chaps.

Sorry Mark, my problem has always been a lack of knowing my place. 😀 (among other things. 😉 )

However I’m sure there’s a thesis somewhere: “The British class system and its manifestations at airshows.”

Sorry Rob, being American, you may miss the classic example (hidden, but there) of the British class system, being nicely spotlit here.

In Britain, some people fly. Other people are kept behind barriers, and yet a third group won’t ask the person who can do something about it, but will make a lot of noise about how hard their life is afterwards.

I am reminded of the three blokes Monty Python sketch:

First bloke, upper class twit accent: “I look down on them, because I am gentry.”

Second bloke, clearly middle class: “I look up to him, because he is a pilot and owner. I look down on him because he is a spotter, and I am a photographer.”

Third bloke: ” I look up to them because I have to. But sometimes he will hide the serial, so I tell my mates ALL about it down the pub afterwards, because we all love a good moan.”

As Molesworth would sa, Chiz chiz mone drone.

Just my opinion!

JDK,

You never finished it.

God are we still crying over this one, look it comes down to this the OWNER elect to keep the cover on because by the sounds of it it was a rather hot day and didn’t want to fry anything inside the cockpit.

If you really must have a photo of this machine then heres an idea track down the home airport send a request to the owner about stopping by and get some photos.

Mog,

Exactly, but would you photograph it, if the security screen wasn’t there?

Mark 🙂

No.

What for?

Can’t see the point. I’m sorry I really don’t understand the compulsion to photograph every aircraft one sees.

Had I a particular interest in that type I’d happily walk over to the owner and say “I’m a particular fan of the (insert type here), I’d really love to take a picture of yours, have you any idea when you’ll be taking the cover off?”

AR, if you are really that concerned you could always buy the helicopter and then you could do what you want with it.

Don’t forget people own these aircraft for their own pleasure, not to take it around for people to look at and photograph, that’s a nice by product for enthusiasts. I have actually flown in that particular aircraft when owned by its previous owner and know that its quite an expensive machine. Most of these machines will pitch up at shows for fuel, or sometimes for nothing. The true running costs are quite a bit more. Be thankfull it was there at all I say.

Ermm….

Dunno, but I wouldn’t try and take a picture of it.

…and I wouldn’t photograph an aircraft with a cover over it.

OK then.

One of those fashion or whatever it was photo-shoots you have referred to in the past.
