I will sort a pic out, it is the flying control wheel not the yoke….I have a Do17 yoke but not from that one!

Part of the funding problem is that the German War Graves Service (VDK) have no money for this. Really; they don’t! It seems the VDK are funded very differently to the CWGC and I think there is pretty much no state input, financially. I gather, if my information is correct, that it is funded a bit like the RNLI here; ie by public subscription. I suppose there is little appetite for funding remembering the war dead in Germany, and what money they do have is thinly spread across many cemeteries and projects. Hence, there is a problem finding the budget for this at any early date.

Top job, Andy, and likewise to Joe Potter. Well done, gentlemen.
I remember trying to look for the graves about 1992, not knowing at the time that the other airmen (who I was interetsed in) had been moved to Cannock Chase, and so there was no marker.
Rocketeer, I’d be very interested in seeing a pic of that control wheel…
Perhaps a new challenge for Andy? There’s film footage of the Seasalter wreck – a few seconds appeared in “Spitfire Ace”….

Well done to all involved! I feel pretty sure that the German state will come up with the money to have the remains moved.
One tiny (pedantic) niggle about the Daily Mail article; the remains aren’t being ‘repatriated’ are they?
