I am wondering what the small, elevated foils are above the wing and tail control surfaces of the Dornier Do X flying boat. Are they some kind of servo tabs? Does anyone out there know, please?

I thought they were some kind of servo tabs…. ‘makes sense on such a large machine.
I susbscribe to Aeroplane mag, but it gets sent to UK while I am in Scandinavia, so I look forward to reading more in the DoX database article.
Thanks for the info.

According to the Do-X database in a recent issue of Aeroplane, the tabs were fitted after the first couple of flights of the prototype. I don’t have the issue to hand to quote from directly, but IIRC the control systems were then altered further, turning the ailerons and elavators into ‘floating’ controls, ie. only the tabs were directly connected to the helm, controling the main surfaces by servo action.

They were indeed auxiliary elevator and aileron tabs respectively
