Day 2 of 5
Day 1 – Northolt Here
As the sun was shining, I decided to have Friday morning at Duxford before heading north on the train for my long weekend. It was very hazy and very quiet even though 2 Apache helicopters did shatter the peace as they passed through. I was about to go get a bit of Lunch when the unmistakable crackle of a Meriln could be heard in the distance. Out of the haze to the west appeared what turned out to be Spitfire Tr 9 SM520/G-ILDA, in Dutch markings of H-99, from Thruxton.
Terence the Tug and his handlers then brought out the HFL Tr 9 PV202/G-CCCA, in Dutch markings of H-98, and parked it next to the new arrival for a bit of a photo call. Unfortunately they weren’t parked on the grass outside ARCo/HFL which made photographing them together a bit of a problem but many thanks to Bob for the ‘sneeky peeky’ inside.
After Lunch H-99 went up for a few take offs and landings but I couldn’t hang around long as I had a train ride to Doncaster to look forward to.
Due to the amount of haze that was about, lighting conditions were variable.

Spitfire video
The Spifire, perfoming aerobatics, at the end of the video was, I believe, piloted by Alex Henshaw. But where is it filmed? Biggin Hill?

Fair enough, although Sir William Walton did compose the (mostly) unused score to Battle of Britain, as well as Spitfire Prelude and Fugue…

There is an article in the Mail on Sunday Magazine on SM520 with a piece of video at the end. Not sure about the music played or the relevance of the b&w footage.

The article says there are 2 hurricane frames with classic aero that will be restored over the next 3or 4 years? is one of them the sea hurricane auctioned at goodwood a few months ago?

H-98 (G-CCCA) wears IAC 161

Never noticed before that G-ILDA wears the serial of the original H-99 under the fin flash. Does G-CCCA have this also?
