Doug Arnold P47G

Has anyone information on a P47G that was obtained by Doug Arnold? Is it still around or hasn’t it been seen for the last 10 or so years? BW Roger

I have tears in my eyes! Remember it, as it isn’t there anymore. Destroyed by preserving it 😡 BW Roger

Anyone has a picture of it , eather at strathallen or Blackbush.

Another thing, I started this thread because I was told that some of the collections aircraft were stored overseas. To be more precise, I am looking into the fact that according to some, there are containers with aircraft stored in Holland. I don’t need a confirmation, but is it possible that these airframes are in Holland ???

I was lucky enough to live not far from Blackbushe in its modern heyday of the late 70’s. Although I never met him personally Arnold was not well liked by anybody I met at the time or since. I do remember getting chased away from the hangars by guard dogs while trying to get a peak at the Liberator(took me 10+ years and a trip to Florida to manage it!). There was always talk of a museum but that seemed a smoke screen for what was a wheeler dealer in aircraft. But if it was not for him I would have never seen a Hienkel(Ok it was CASA built) in the air. Visits always turned up a new DC3 of ‘Junkers’. Sometimes the hangars would be open enough for a peak at his Avenger,P47, of Spits. Those hangars did not have planning permission and were knocked down shortly after he left.

I’m pretty sure it was a real Storch that came and went back to America fairly quickly.

Talking of flying A does anybody have any info on a Storch N436FS?? that I saw in their hangar about 4 years ago? If was in full Luftwaffre scheme as ZE+RA with a small US reg under the tail. I saw it one day after getting lost going to the market! It was next to the Corsair and Wildcat, the only time I have seen that hangar(very slightly) open.

Wasn’t there talk of plans for flying A services to have a Hanger built at Shoreham Airport at one time?

Graeme,

You are right if I had a warbird and could fly it I too would take it wherever I could, however this does not seem to be the view of the powers that be at Flying A Services. There has for many years now been the plan to open a museum to display the airframes however a suitable site has yet to be found, Flying A having very firm ideas as to what they want to have.
As for whether Flying A will ever operate these aircraft we will have to wait and see, however none of them were ever particularly active on the circuit when under their previous ownership and there doesn’t seem to be any particular urgency now.
With regard to preservation Flying A and more importantly Warbirds of Great Britain have worked extremely hard over the years to secure aircraft from uncertain fates which have since been passed on to other operators around the world and must be congratulated for that. Aircraft within these collections have always come and gone and I see no reason why that would not continue into the future.

As a very quick calculation I would value the TFC fleet at considerably more than the money I have available to me at the moment.

£24 mil, so their not exactly poor, do they have to pay North Weald for having their boxed up planes based there?

i dont understand why they have all those airworthy aircraft and dont show them off to the public. If i had a P-51 or a Wildcat i would be going to all the airshows and fly them as much as i could? Everyone agree with me there? Does Flying A plan to operate aircraft eventually?

does anyone know what the TFC fleet is valued at?

SADSACK

Inheritance Tax (if that is what Flying A was caught by) as I am learning to my cost at the moment has a lower limit of £250k and is paid at a rate of 40% after that

Back of fag packet calculations are that the bill will be £24Mil, I am glad you dont feel the need to worry about £24Mil can I have some of what you are on:D

I know they are still left with a lot but 24Mil is 24Mil 😮

re

I have allways been puzzled by the Flying A services company as they one minute apear to have no interest in the airframes and quite rightfully sell them, on the other they have/had a Seafire under restoration.

Is it a case of scaling down the collection to a managable proportion?

I heard they inherited £60 million so I doubt tax on the airframes would have been a problem?

yeah Excellent pics mark 12!!!

I would of gone legends just to purely see that aircraft!

But as the flying A services dont like displaying their aircraft, i dont think anyone will see it at the moe.

I heard that the OFMC’s P-40E is going back to NZ, if so a P-47 would be a great addition to their fleet?
