Finally got around to buying a Canon 300D, so the first results are from Shuttleworth. Was told that my old Sigma 140- 500 might not work with the Digi, it focused and gave meter reading but error 99 was shown when the shutter was pressed. Has anybody had similar problems? I have been told that Sigma offer a upgrade service with some older lens has anybody used the service, is it any good and how long did it take. Thanks in advance for any assistance

I contacted Sigma by e-mail last month on the same issue and there reply was, if I had proof of purchase it was £5 p&p, if not £33.99.
Average turnaround was 2-3 weeks from receipt of lens.
Hope this helps.

Hello Doughnut,
I have the experience that it depends on the age of the lens. My slightly older Sigma APO 400 mm could not be re chipped, according to a list they held at the Sigma service center. Fortunately my 28-105 mm can have a surgery: it will take 4 weeks in Holland and will cost Euro 45 ex tax for everyone..
Good luck with yours !

I paid £35 for both my lenses, unfortunately they both came back with broken shields.

I paid £35 last year and got the lens back within about a week or so.

Error 99 is in need of rechipping. If you have the original receipt its free. I think they quoted £35 without. Mine was one of the first, and was back within a couple of weeks.
