Douglas Commercial Day !

Where else in the world could one photograph such a wide variety of Douglas Commercial aircraft, almost all in flying status, in one day ??

Well I was a bit wrong, too….it seems to be a DC-7B which suggests it wasn’t one of the original American Airlines fleet (they sponsored the basic DC-7 against Douglas Co. wishes). You weren’t alone, AJ Jackson fell for the D7C graphic trick which Dan Air used ,too and the RAF Museum have got their Charles E Brown BOAC DC-7C pic listed as a DC-7B 🙂
Edit …I think there were two types of DC-7B…. S.A.A (and maybe Pan Am) had DC-7Bs with saddle tanks at the back of the engine nacelles (DC-7C style?) which the US Domestic ones in your pics lack,

Thank you longshot, you are, of course, correct ! looking around on A.net etc the majority seem to favour DC-7B/F …. thread ammended to suit !

Cracking pictures….you got caught out, though, by the American Airlines graphic dodge D7C…its a basic DC-7 with the original wing (DC-4 span)…the genuine DC-7Cs had a 10foot bigger span (plus a longer fuselage and a squarer taller fin)

Thank you all for your nice comments ! Yes of course it is Opa Locka ! Where else would you see so much propliner history ? It’s changed a lot in the last twenty years but still holds a lot of magic ! Three C-117’s operating daily WoW !

Nice pictures Keith 🙂

This can only be at Opa Locka (the oldest airport of Miami)

The Eastern DC7 is now stranded in Charlotte with a broken engine.
