Hi,
Ok not my normal bag but I obtained this instrument panel recently.
So to explain my interest, having once owned VP967 (G-KOOL) and had many enjoyable hours engine running the old bird at Redhill I have been left with a soft spot for the Dove/Devon.
I got this instrument panel recently and cannot be sure if it is Dove or Devon, I have to say my gut tells me it is a Dove panel but it does not match any photo reference I can find of a Dove, the stand out panel is rather odd and may be a mod of somekind? What confuses the issue is the fact that a lot of Devons have been operated as Doves at a later date. The panel is quite simular to a Devon but I cannot see any VHF kit which makes me think it is Dove rather than a Devon. If anyone can confirm exactly what I have that would be fantastic, I would rather like to populate the panel over time but I am not certain what is going on with the stand out panel on the right hand side.
Many thanks

Hi, glad you got it. Yes it was for the C1 as you refer.
The highlighting was for another person who wanted those parts, I was able to supply most except the forward nose door.

Hello Scrooge, I got your e-mail thank you, it looks like a Mk1 Devon with the spilt blind flying panel, we called this the C1 which had the all perspex canopy the later C2 had the raised bubbled canopy.
I noted you had highlighted some parts you were looking for, did you still need these parts? I can help with a good leed on a lot of the cowlings you were after and I believe we have a few boxed door handles in store.

Also, the manual for our Mk 8 (ex G-ASMG) states that panel and radio fit is ‘as per operators requirements’, so there are effectively an infinite number of variations possible.
redhillwings- I’ll send you an email, via your museum contact page, a scan of some pages from the IPC, one of which shows the panel layout.

Thank you all for your comments, yes there are indeed holes under the blanking plates, shame really it isn’t Devon as that is where my heart is but the differences between the two are very suttle, they were the same airframe after all. Bruce a pilots note scan of the main panel would really help me understand what goes where, I have plenty of shots of VP967’s panel but not sure that will help me much.
Dan
Attached are some photos of the main panel on 967 and a photo of it’s very first taxi at Redhill – many happier hours but she is far better off with the YAM.

The right hand sidey bit looks like a Decca setup, I would guess that there are another three cutouts like the top right one under the blanking plates.

This is a shot of a RNZAF Mk 1 cockpit (NZ1820):

And at the bottom of this photo are a couple of main panels and a couple of centre engine panels (apparently both are from NZ1820 as well).

For redhillwings- all Doves/Devons could have the de-icing fitted. Our Mk1 and Mk8 both did at some stage.

Looks like our Dove Mk 8 panel- I’m not sure when this type of panel came into use, the Mk 1’s I’ve seen are a basic 6 panel in front of the pilot and a centre mounted 10 instrument cluster for the instruments.

It looks like your panel has been modified to display more navigation instruments instead of the co-pilots panel.

I think Dove. I am sure I have seen a manual with a similar set up

Not heard of that one before but will look into it. I guess flying without the De icing system serviceable (as mentioned on the make shift label) might suggest later civillian use as I know the De icing system was difficult / expensive to maintain. I guess both Doves and Devon’s both had de icing as standard?

I can’t find any pictures but any possibility it’s from a Riley Turbo exec or Carstadt Jetliner conversion? Might explain the differences.
