This is a Yak-52 based at Goulburn, south west of Sydney. This is an ex-Romanian Air Force example that was built in 1983 and sold of as excess in 1994, it made its way down here and was on hand for the welcoming of the HARS Catalina (which never made it due to blowing both Carbies up in Coff’s Harbour).
If you look at the sides of the cowling, you can see the nose art of Count Dracual and his castle and the words “Drac’s Yak in red”
Enjoy

I have seen one Yak in the UK painted up in US (Marines?) Dark Blue, looking a bit like a Corsair gone wrong.
The scheme suited the aircraft quite well though.

Anyone else in the UK seen the Yak50 painted up in full RAF markings looking very Tempest like?

Bah! Heathens!
A Yak-52 must only be finished in genuine DOSAAF or FLARF colours. I’m currently trying to have the company in NSW responsible for this cultural vandalism shut down.

Mog: Mate I’d be really interested in seeing a pic of that Yak, sounds interesting, wonder if they are using it for movies?

Mog: It’s a rather short runway, but I found it odd also.
Art: Mate this was an ex-Romanian model, I was speaking with the owner/pilot, he even showed me the log book, it was an attrition replacement.
Stieg: Thanks mate, yes it is nice to see something different, this would have to be one of the more exotic scheems down here!

Probably an ex-Soviet machine, not Romanian. The Romanian Yak-52s are built later than 1983, and i don’t know of any that was sold off. And certainly not by 1994 already.

Very odd.
Taxi and take-off with flaps extended? That sure as hell isn’t in the POH
