Driving Home From Christmas

Hello

After spending Christmas with my folks, I took a rather unusual route home which allowed me to stop at a number of airfields.

My first port of call was Coventry. Plenty of ATPs about – G-BTPA was the most photogenic (and airworthy!).

It was only a short drive from here to Wellesbourne, where based N70AA was the highlight:-

G-AYMO was looking colourful in the winter gloom:-

Next stop was Turweston, where I found Islander G-BJWO:-

and Cessna 182 N681EW:-

Cranfield was my next destination, where I found three stored Netjets:-

and N899AG

Final stop was Elstree where G-GLED was parked ‘gate gard’ style by the entrance:-

While Lake Buccaneer C-FQIP remains dumped in the undergrowth:-

No problem 🙂 That one seems to of been in since around September or so I think. I’ve got no idea when its leaving.

Dont worry about the security as such. They generally dont do anything. Normally airfield ops will come and say hi but thats all. If you say you’re taking pics they’re fine about it. I know some spotters ask ops before hand over by the tower if its okay. I’ve not done this as I fly from cranfield and know my limits as such when taking pics only 🙂

Yep, they tend to have a nice break for xmas there. Normally from xmas eve to around 3rd or so of January.

Thanks for that photo EGTC – it certainly is a spectacularly painted aircraft, and I have to admit I was disappointed that my photo didn’t turn out too good, although taking a photo into the sun when it is low at this time pof the year is never going to produce the best photo.

Thanks also for the tip regarding the grass bank. My visit was a bit surreal, as with the airport being closed for the Christmas / New Year break I had it to myself with the exception of the security guys who followed me around. They never said anything – I think they realised I was no harm and welcomed having something to do – but I didn’t want to give them an excuse to give me any hassle.

Nice one mate. I didnt know that N899AG was still in! I havent been over to Cranfield for a few weeks though. You can stand by that grass mound to take pics like I did.. Just dont go airside 🙂
