drop tank's

The Bf 109 versions used in Spain were not physically capable of carrying a drop tank. They would have required additional internal pipework, cockpit controls and a larger oil tank. This was not installed until the Bf 109 E-7 version mid-late 1940. I strongly suspect Galland was confusing the He 51 and the Hs 123 which he flew in Spain and the Polish Campaign and did carry drop tanks.
