I suspect Air Ministry Department of Technical Development standards were deemed Secret with limited distribution, because I have yet to ever see an original copy. I have many references in all sorts of literature to DTD specs but even that great laxative ebay has yet to purge out an original document from somebodies shed.
Does anybody have an original DTD document ?

Finally I have found some original DTD specs from the late twenties, which, as I thought, are subject to the Official Secrets Act 1911 – 1920, so I can’t tell you where I found them. In fact I didn’t. I don’t know what you are talking about ! What DTD standards ? I’m sorry, I have to catch a..no! Please NO ! I have kids ! Mum ! MUMMY !!!… .. . . .

DTD Specifications
Hopefully this will work!
And this:
Available DTD Documents in PDF
Possibly the information you already have, but the DTD listing does show some replacements with British Standards that are still current. For the BS S series that are still current it may be worth contacting one of the material suppliers that deal in aerospace materials (http://www.aircraftmaterials.com/ or http://www.smithmetal.com/ but there are plenty of others out there!) failing that a direct request through BSI for the current BS specs should do the trick.
Hopefully the above will be of use.

Dave

None of those numbers exist on the Def Stan website as .pdfs. I’ll forward the lists anyway.
Thank you. The DTD standards I mentioned are long obsolete, really need to find a tea chest in the attic of a 100 year old airframe stress analyst.
Nevil Shute Norway’s attic would be good, but I think it was long cleared out.

Yes Please
I have access to the Defence Standards website that lists all DTD numbers with a basic title and current status as well as a list of all those DTD standards available in.pdf format. Can forward the list files if wanted. Any particular numbers?
I feel like the Beverley Hillbillies when they found a gusher in their backyard !
These are oldies but goodies :
DTD 54A, obsolete 1936, becomes S88 1936, S88 obsolete late 40s
DTD 100 and DTD 99, obsolete early thirties.
DTD 166A, obsolete mid fifties, becomes S520, becomes S524
Somebody, somewhere, has a box full of musty DTD files from 1925 – 1945 that they think are worthless, but as Englebert Humperdink would sing, there is a lover out there for everybody.

And another.
Alleluja ! I have seen a DTD spec ! Thank you. Now all we need to do is find a thick book containing all of them from the 1920’s onward…

Have an original edition, but not about my person at present. They are on loan to Abram Water and I seem to have trouble in getting them back.

No, but I did come across an Excel spread sheet with the standards on it once, I know it came from the land of the internet but I can’t remember where.
