DUB evacuated after bomb scare (again!)

DUBLIN (Reuters) – Police evacuated Dublin airport on Friday (7th July) and called out a bomb disposal unit for the second time this week after a suspect package was found.

“There’s been a partial evacuation due to a suspect package in the arrivals hall,” an airport spokesman said.

The airport was evacuated on Tuesday, causing over two hours of delays for travellers, after a man walked into the arrivals hall saying he had a bomb. The package he was carrying was later found to contain only clothes and newspapers.

“The army’s EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) unit has been notified,” a police spokeswoman said. “They would be on their way as soon as possible.

As with the earlier security alert, the entire landside area of Ireland’s busiest airport was evacuated. There have been a number of hoax calls to the airport this week.

This is becoming quite serious, two incidents in one week, and also taking into account the hoax calls as well…imagine the impact that this has had on flights and passengers.

Strange that an Irish airport is being targetted though. I don’t know anything about the terror threat level over there, but does anyone think this could be remenents of the IRA at all or something more sinister?

This is actually the 3rd time this week.
First on tuesday with the nutter claiming all sort of things.
Second on wednesday when the Airport recieved some bad minded calls.
And finally this morning with this latest problem.
Unfortunately the press had another field day claiming all sorts of things regarding 7/7 rememberance in the UK.
Seemingly it turned out to be a passenger that forgot his/her rucksack while collecting other luggage.
No idea what can be done but praise has to be given for the actions of the Airport and Security authorities for the calm manner that all cases so far have been dealt with.
