Duford Museum back in 1977

Rooting through my stuff whilst completing my move I found a guide book to IWM Duxford in 1977…

In it there is a list of the exhibits (just 61) including…
Owner
AW Meteor NF.11 WD686 IWM
AW Meteor NF.14 WS760 Private
Beagle Pup 100 G-AVDF IWM
Beagle 206X G-ARRM IWM
B Bollingbrokes RCAF9893 & RCAF 10038 Both Private
Cessna 195 G-BBYE Private
Me Bf109G 14120 IWM
Nord 1101/Bf208 G-ATIX Private
Percival Proctor G-AIWA Private
Percival Proctor G-ANPP Private
S Spitfire VC AR501 Shuttleworth
S Spitfire PRXI PL983 Shuttleworth

Changed a bit since…
What happened to some of those…?
And any photo memories out there?
No other reason other than idle curiosity.

Gawd – if that He111 was a ‘Stang or a Spit it would have been flying by now!

So where is it now?

Now with MRP’s pics. I wonder why the forum won’t let me load downloaded pics from home?

So I’ll try tomorrow from work. A very minor mystery. Sorry.

Cheers

Hmmm.

Now I’ll press the red button….

Here is a shot of the HE111 rear fuselage taken in May 1983. I did read that this is now in Austria with a collection of components, which had been offered for sale.

The tail of the Marauder was rescued by the Rebel Air Museum and is stored at Earls Colne. There were plans for this to go on display again in the local area but this is still under negotiation.

The CF100 definitely didn’t fly at the ’75 show. I took this a year after in ’76:

MRP, it would be great if you could put some pictures up!

Shouldn’t be too hard, resize the image on your computer to something below 800 pix wide, create a new post and where it says ‘Attach file:’ click on ‘Browse’ and select the (resized)image you want to add to the post. That’s all (only one photo per post though).

I did visit Fantsy of Flight a couple of weeks ago, and some work has been put into Joe, in the last year.
The main u/c legs have been restored and resealed as well as some cleaning up of the udersurface. All the metal work has been polished and some new paint applied to all the markings . It was looking in much better shape. I do not think that it is ready for flight though.
The most exciting aircraft at FoF now, has to be the DC-3 on floats, which has been recently flown in from Maine. It certainly is dominating the ramp. I am not sure if it landed on the lake or the runway when it arrived !( The Gee Bee is second place in my opinion)
If I can just figure out how to post pictures,I would show them!
I do also have a picture of the HE111 remains at Duxford , if any one is interested in seeing them.

It was 1975 but i don’t think it was at the airshow. The day OHB arrived in that it was chucking it down.

I have a report from the telegragh re: the He111 remains which were lifted from a Nowegian Lake. B24 was never intended for the UK except in peoples imaginations, it was transitting when it required engine work after making an initial landing at Mildenhall.

Possibly the B24 was a significant stage in the change of DX from a static aircraft site to what it is today…….

I could be wrong, but I was told the CF-100 taxied during the 75 show, after flying in earlier in the year from Cranfield. Something on the dias wasn’t right, so it didn’t fly. That was the last time it moved under its own steam. Last flight by a CF 100 I’d guess?

The He111 moved on – it wasnt scrapped.

The fin and rudder remain in the BoB exhibition in Hangar 4. The rest of it was in bloody awful condition, and was way, way beyond restoration. The remains are still around, but will I suspect be used for salvage only.

I suspect the Bf109 is a similar story.
