At long last, and after 5 years of scrimping, saving and fundraising, I am pleased to report that Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum are now the proud owners of our museum site including the former control tower of RAF Dumfries.
Grant funding topped up the £40,000 donated by visitors to allow us to meet our target and after protracted negotiation the deal was done on Wednesday. We can now call the place our own and get back to investing in infrastructure and exhibits, and continue to improve our visitor experience.
To all other organisations trying to secure their site, we wish you all the best in your efforts and we hope we can illustrate that it CAN be done.

Sobriety has finally returned after a wee ‘do’ on Saturday! To be honest, the news still hasn’t sunk in yet, but we have a few celebration events planned for the year as well as more exciting good news which I will impart when I can.
Neil, if you are not up our way this year I will make a point of coming to see you – I have never been and you are embarrassingly close!

A Mammoth task, very well handled!… an shining inspiration in these gloomy times.
By the way, I still have your 2 x JP5a ejection seat gun rails in safe keeping at Spark Bridge, waiting for an opportunity to come North or if anyone from your Org is passing ‘Lakes Lightnings’ way???

Many congratulations to you. I’ve visited a couple of times on my way to catch a ferry from Stranraer. It’s a great place to stop for an hour (or more!) with the kids to break up the long journey. Beats a service station anyday – even the wife agrees with that!

Thanks everybody for your support. It has been a battle at times and we have intentionally kept a fairly low profile for a while as we felt we were in danger of becoming known as an ‘on the brink’ museum. Now that we have achieved our goal you will hear more from us and what we are up to.
If anyone is ever in the area please do drop by, the kettle is always on. Make yourself known to me (tall, no beard) as it is always nice to meet a forumite.

Excellent news – one day I will make it down on a day when you are open, rather than just looking through the fence! (Must persuade my customers to change their work days!)

Land ownership and the resultant longer term security that it brings for a collection are often undervalued assets in many forms of preservation – this is a great move up there and a sound basis for the future – well done! 🙂

Well done Bob and all the people involved with the collection, hopefully you will only go onwards and upwards from here.

Well done,
Was down there a couple of years ago, well worth a visit. We combined it with Carlisle to make a full day trip.

Congratulations on your achievement and wish you all the best.
I hope it will allow you to increase your shop offerings.
I had a very enjoyable visit to the museum on a sunny but cool August day last year and was very impressed with the activities there.
I was particularly impressed with the larger than usual control tower which allows more display scope inside than most tower museums are able to.
I recommend a visit there to all.
