Dunsfold UFO sighting

No sarcasm or directions to the nearest loonie bin please, but does anyone have any info on the Dunsfold UFO sighting that occurred during the early 50’s?
I was present, along with a bunch of aviation buffs, some I seem to remember with short wave radios. I had cycled up from Shoreham to watch the test flying of the Hawker Hunter.. There were more than one aircraft in the air at the time, one I think was a chase plane. A spherical ball appeared off the port wingtip of the Hunter, and kept pace with the aircraft. (Saw this through my dads 9x 35 binocs) It assumed new positions when the pilots became curious, but was still visible. There were reports in the following Mondays paper as I recollect.
Copy of sketch I did at the time attached.

Actually AM, I wrote to Aviation Week at the time and recieved a polite reply from Phillip Klass (then Avionics Editor) suggesting what I had seen was marsh gas. Rather puts Neville Duke and the other pilots, plus tower staff and many observers on the ground, in their proper places too does’nt it.
Many thanks for your contribution.

I cannot add anything to your Dunsfold incident barry flahey, but I did witness something similar “escorting” a B737 into Manchester IA about ten years ago. No little green men or anything, just a very shiny/reflective ball of light positioned off the lhs of the Boeing’s tail when I first noticed it. The object then appeared to accelerate slightly before executing a sort of slow barrel roll around the rear fuselage of the aircraft, after which it shot off “in the blink of an eye”.

This was mid morning, I was completely sober and I had only paused to glance at the Boeing because it was flying over at quite a low altitude.

There, I’ve said it, now call me barking. 🙂
