I wrote to Google Earth and asked them to update the image. Judging from the posts on various South African forums, there is a fair amount of controversy. They decided to put a toll road in to serve the airport and now local residents have to pay the toll to go to work every day.The pipe which carries fuel to the airport was not well built and is leaking. The quaint GA airport, Virginia (FAVG) nearby is in jeopardy being so close to KSIA. And so on… Just like all the gripes about some UK airports. Same old government bureaucracy. :diablo:

And the date of your Google image?;)
Building of the new airport commenced in 2007. The old airport will be used by the SAAF during the World Cup after which it will be de-commissioned.
