DUS 28-29/10/06 Part I

And here I present to you, one of my first photo threads in avery long time! This weekend I flew to Dusseldorf on BA, outbound on 767-300 G-BNWZ on Saturday morning and inbound on A319 G-EUPA Sunday evening. Both of them great flights, the 767 was very empty however as you will soon see. I was accompanied by Stuart (RIPConcorde). The weather on the Saturday was an absolute let down, so I did my best to make up for it on Sunday. Here is a very small selection of my efforts that I’ve had chance to quickly edit so far. There should be atleast another batch coming up shortly, as I eventually get time to edit them all. Keep a look out, and enjoy these in the meantime. I’m afraid they’re all pretty rushed and compressed edits, but they should be ok.

The first was a handheld 2 second exposure at Heathrow before my departure, the lights in the background are that of a Swiss A320 landing on 27L.

And here’s with the rest, starting with our empty economy cabin onboard G-BNWZ.

Great shots there. Is it me or dont the overhead lockers on the BA 763 photo look different to the standard ones?

Excellent shots as ever Dan, cheers for the good weekend. I might even get round to posting some of mine soon, not that they are going to come close to the immense quality of the shots here. 😉 I look forward to seeing some more!

Cheers Elgan and James! Yup I think the Dutch are notorious for giving a good old wave…you should have seen 5 seconds later he had his hand out the window waving up and down!

Great shots there Dan like the KLM Cityhopper F50 shot the best. Wonder what the cargo was.

Cheers for all the kind comments! As I say, that’s only a very small proportion out of 150 or so editable shots.

I’d say DUS is worth it yes, but you rely very much on the weather. It’s not like MAN where if it’s raining you can hope to catch a few different shots such as 747’s blowing the rain off the runway. Firstly there are few heavy movements (that’s not to say thee movements are boring!) and secondly, the terraces are near the thresholds at both ends of the runway. In other words, there’s very little you can do in crappy weather, and nearly a whole day of photos on Saturday will probably just sit on my hard drive forever cos they just don’t look exciting at all.

On the other hand…get some Sun…you got nice movements (UK guys would particularly like Aeroflot Tupolevs, the German charter fleets, and various others like S7, Sun Express, MAT, Pulkovo, Privatair etc.) and 2 great viewing terraces, either allowing for parking/ramp/taxi shots, or approach/hold/touchdown shots.

Jamie: I have since been told that the 763 is used because it’s stuffed with cargo going out to Germany every morning.

Dusseldorf is worth going to – excellent photographic facilities with a good variety of traffic. Am going there on 17th Nov.

Fabulous shots Dan.
Very crisp and clear, looks like you got great conditions at DUS.
Loving both the AB A320’s.

Fabtastic shots , like the first 2 second exposure. So you flew out on a B763 to Dusseldorf. Any ideas how it was such a big aircraft ?.

Regards

Jamie
