Hi everyone,
my trip this summer from Düsseldorf to Beirut was very special for two reasons, first , I was flying on my favourite airline and my favourite plane: the A330, and second, I was upgraded on both ways to business class !!
DUS-BEY ,21st of July 2004, flight ME 222:
it was a great sunny morning in Düsseldorf , and I went to the airport half an hour before starting the check-in, first I was surprised , there was a huge number of people already waiting there. While checking-in, they told me that I’ve been upgraded to Cedar Class (business class). I was so happy and excited that I forgot to give my MEA card to collect the miles of the trip. I was the first to board through gate B27.
The plane took-off almost on time at 10:30 from runway 23L, it was very smooth, the crew was so friendly. It was captain Ferro by the way who was in command.
Then they started serving appetizers like peanuts and drinks, then the main food, a variety of lebanese cuisine, it was very delicious.
After that, I was exploring the AVOD system, it had a big variety of films, videos, music, games and documentaries about lebanon.
The flight was so superb and comfortable, even touchdown was so smooth that passengers clapped their hands.
These are few pics from the trip.

Pablo
I’ve heard many positive things about MEA over the years
I think they’re doing very good in the last couple of years, before 2001 they were in a horrible loss, in 2002 MEA had a winning year for the first time since the seventies, they earned 3 million $ that year, in 2003 around 22 million, and this year they are expecting around 30 million. So I guess MEA CEO’s plan is really successfull !!

Sounds like an excellent flight and a great report. I’ve heard many positive things about MEA over the years – a friend I used to know would regularly travel to Beirut and always flew MEA.

Mark L,
the only reason i got upgraded was that the economy class was so crowded, that’s the only reason I thought of since on my way to beirut i remember there were 209 passengers on board.
LBARULES,
Sounds like two great flights
yes indeed !! unforgettable.
Sonnenflieger,
that DVD is just great !! by the way there’s a 707 parked next to runway 17 in beirut, and also a 720 near the hangars (the anti-terror unit there uses it sometimes for trainings), both of them in old MEA colors.
dc10fan,
true, MEA leased its 747s because there was no way using them since beirut airport was so often closed during that era.
T5,
nice picture there,
DUS-BEY it was the F-OMEC (delivered on June 2003),
BEY-DUS it was the F-OMEA (delivered on april 2003).

Excellent report and photographs.
What was the reigstration of the aircraft that you flew?
Here is F-OMEB, an A330 I photographed at Heathrow last month…

Great report/photos. The A330 looks good in the new MEA cols. Back in Aug 88, I flew on a BA B747 from LGW-MCO. The a/c was reg G-BLVE but was actually
OD-AGH on lease from MEA.

Nice photos! Still haven’t managed to get to Beirut, but since I watched the MEA 707 DVD I desperately want to go there!

Very Nice pictures and nice report. Any particular reason you got upgraded, or did it just come out of the blue?

BEY-DUS, september 8th 2004, flight ME 221
the flight back to germany was also great, while I was boarding the airplane at Gate 23 in Beirut, I got upgraded. Well…. I guess I was very lucky in this trip. During this flight, I took also few shots.
