I’m thinking of a photo trip to AMS/DUS/FRA/ZRH in late November and after checking out cheap flights available, Dusseldorf seems a good option. £63 return on Air Berlin from Manchester or Stansted out @0700 Sat and ret @1500 Sunday. Has anyone flown on Air Berlin? The MAN flights are on 737-700/800s and STN on F100s. Has anyone visited the terrace at DUS since Pier B was re-built? Is the viewing terrace at the rail station any good?

Will be passing through Dusseldorf tomorrow on my way to Zurich – routing booked to get the CRJ700 on the return leg to LHR on Saturday evening.

Ive been recently to the viewing terrace in Dusseldorf Airport. There are great views of the gates and runways. The only thing is that it costs 2 euros entrance fee….but its worth it.
I flew Lufthansa on SCL-FRA and EZE-FRA. Great service and a good airline

No offence, but this shouldnt really be in the Trip report section, you will be much more likely to get more replies in the main section of the forum.
Good point; now re-posted in correct section.

This will be my first trip on Lufthansa; what are they like? .
I flew with Lufthansa last year from EDI to FRA, and FRA to FAO. I flew on a B737-300 on the EDI sector.
Flights were on time, and were served a lovely breakfast of apple, banana, yoghurt and toblerone.
Then on the FAO sector had a type of cheesy pasta, which was also very enjoyable and in my opinion one of the best meals I have had onboard.
Crew were very friendly, and the aircraft was clean with comfortable leather seats.
Hope that gives you an idea of what they are like.

I’m not sure if it has happened already or not, but Air Berlin have confirmed that flights will start up from Manchester and Southampton any time soon.
Like I said, it may have happened already.

Air Berlin?
– A cracking good airline! I use them all the time for business.
Allocated seat, bread roll & coffee all included.
The word from my German colleagues is that Air Berlin was started by som ex Lufthansa people.

The train station terrace however can become a bit boring. If you have westerly winds, the the landings will mostly happen on the second (farther away) runaway, while you will only get starts (rolling= on the closer runway. For the second runway you need at leas 350+mm and even those pics are nearly never clear.
On the terrace on the main terminal, however you can take excellent pics of planes taking off and also of those that have landed. Position yourself near the B4 finger and you have only 2 poles that you must avoid.

Air Berlin offer full inflight service, despite being a low cost airline.

The viewing terrace at pier B is quite good although views can be cluttered with ramplice and the emergency stair cases. The viewing terrace at the train station is nothing short but a godsent. It is awesome because it is close to the taxiway as well as the first runway, mostly take-offs. The remote runway, mostly landings, can be photographed with a long lense (250+ mm). Best of all, no clutter and the sun is in your back for most of the day. Only mid to late afternoon (depending on time of year) will the sun get in front of you.
