I was in Dusseldorf over Easter – here are a few pics from the overcast / damp Thursday. Taken mainly from the railway station spectator terrace which is an excellent place to be. The THY A321 was following me – it was at LHR (ex BMI G-MIDF so had ‘come home’) when I departed and arrirved in Dusseldorf the same afternoon.
More will follow when processed

Thanks for your comments MSR777.
I always rember being at Manchester once and a lady on the viewing decks was also in tears as a South African 747 took off, carrying her son who was emigrating to SA.

Some very nice pics. Your comment ref the status of the passengers travelling on those jets, brought to mind a lyric from a 70s track called ‘Airport’ I seem to remember it went something like ‘Airport, you’ve got a smiling face, but you took my lover to another place’ or something to that effect. During the part of my aviation career that I spent in passenger services, there were often displays of great happiness, sometimes real sadness, stress, but also excitement. ‘Airports, all human life is here’ and in my experience, it was.

Sorry ot bring this back up….it sounds like we’re gonna have a really good time.
However, does anyone know of any spots other than the terraces? I’m particularly thinking about the afternoon/evening when the light isn’t meant to be so good from the terraces.

I was there in July, the railway station was fine then till about 3pm, but the sun was higher in the sky then. You won’t be dissapointed, it’s something else for photography 🙂

Great place is DUS – shame i’m working over the weekend or may have joined you!
I spent a couple of hours in the vevening on the terrace in May, before our flight back, but then again photography isn’t my forte – seemed to be a decent variety of traffic nethertheless.
Make sure you head into town in the evening for the ale!

I was there a few months back. The terrace is quite good but if I recacll correctly the sun was a little problem early on in the day. The other terrace down by the train station wasnt much good because we were blinded by the sun but I think the runway use was the opposite of the norm when I was there.
If you get a chance make sure you spend a few hours in the city as I thought it was an amazing place.

Very nice pics! Looks like a nice variety of traffic. 🙂

I thought that was obvious.
That’s why I pointed it out. (this could go on very long, just pointing out another thing that is obvious)

Tenthije – well done – that is what I was refering to. I had not noticed until a dutch spotter pointed it out as it taxied past.
It’s always the Dutch that need to point out the obvious. :diablo:

The yellow is down to my photoshop skills (or lack of them) 🙂 – it looks fine on home monitor but does look strange on work one.
Turkish charters are regular and it is nice to see some companies that do not visit the UK often (at least my part of it)

Would it be the first HLX B738? In the wrong shade of yellow?

Nobody spotted the 737 answer yet ? – it is obvious but people see what they expect to see. Nothing to do with winglets though.
Hapag Fly has no eyebrow windows. All new 737s have been delivered without them since a few months back.

Nice pics, DUS seems to be very good for turkish charters!

thanks for the comments – they swopped ends shortly after hence the rest are all (bar 1) landing from the left.
Did not think of the Fokker as a taxi (but do now) – how would you hail one 🙂

Good stuff… Long time since I’ve been to DUS – LTU had MD-11s last time I was there – but will be back over the late-May bank holiday weekend.
Andy
PS: Paul, any suggestions on where to stay, reasonable price, don’t want a dump?
Which dates ? Perhaps I can show up.

Thanks Paul – I’ve got more than enough Starwood Preferred Guest points for a free night or two at a Sheraton! 🙂
